Any idea what the Garmin Nuvi 715 would cost here with India maps?

I think it costs 9k. You can call the dealer for current price.

Last week I got Garmin nuvi 2300 for Rs 5.9K and paid Rs 1.5K more for friction mount. The unit came with US maps. I got Garmin India Map 2010 from a friend and I am trying them out. Map is very accurate but very few POIs. Routing is good. But entering Bangalore street address is quite a task. Entering GPS co-ordinates is much more easy.

If you are inclined on Garmin, I would suggest this:
1) Goto Garmin site - https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134
2) Select the features you want (listed on left side). Check the price also.
3) Shortlist few, compare & chose one, buy on Amazon.

I considered 4 PNDs before zeroing on Garmin. They are,
1) Magellan
2) Tom Tom
3) Garmin
4) Mio

Personally, I like Magellan. Their unit looks rugged and feels solid. But I was not sure of sourcing India maps for their devices.
I have heard good reviews about Tom Tom (mainly in Europe) and again I was not sure of sourcing India maps.
Mio devices are cheaper ($25-$40 cheaper) than equivalent Garmin devices, but I felt they are not as rugged as Garmin.
Finally, I ended up with Garmin nuvi 2300.

I bought a Mio after considering other options. Mainly because its Windows based, and not any proprietary H/W or OS. You find lot of hacks on the internet for this.
Interesting Satguide devices are Mio devices, and if you buy Satguide software, you can replace the folder with satguide folder and it just works fine

The maps bundled with GPS devices cost money. So if you are getting a device with foreign maps, you are paying for some thing that you do not need here, and you have to spend extra for India maps. I suggest that you get the devices from India which mostly come loaded with India maps.

What if
Cost of device from Abroad + Cost of India maps < "Cost of device in India with india maps".

I am sure nobody will get devices from abroad if the above equation was not true!

I checked the Garmin India prices. If what the previous post says is true the 13K device is available for 6k. The 205 is 10K list, so should be around 4.5K. In US it is 119 dollars, which is close to the Indian price. Add cost of maps and you are better off buying here. Of course the economics rest on the price quoted by our forum member.

if I may suggest, I would strongly reccomend Garmin units.

I personally use a garmin 60 Csx and a Zumo.

I would suggest Nuvi series from Garmin.

1390 is a nice model.
If you can make sure it has the following:

1. bluetooth

2. Speak street names.

3. Almost all Nuvi series accepts sd cards.

4. Glass mount with cigarette light adapter.

Maps for Garmin units are available from Mapmyindia and even from City Navigator. Cost approx 7 K. Satguide maps are lot cheaper, but so are the overall POI and road content.
Cheers

Last week I got myself a Garmin 265W for $119 - approx 5.5K. I am about to add Satguide maps for 1.2K to teh same. In 6.7K I got myself a pretty good Garmin device with India maps. I am sure that Garmin India does not have 265 for this price.
