Guys,

Some urgent help required.
My N81 broke and is in 2 pieces.
Since my laptop doesn't have any back up of the contacts, is there any other way i can transfer the contacts from the N81 to my new E63?

Thanks!

Does it turn on after it broke? IF it does, then Nokia has launched a new service www.ovi.com. With that serice you can back up contacts/ calendar to site.

Later you can download those to E63 from sire itself.

No software needs to be there on phone.

PC Suite is not required.

If it turns on, then :

1. Sign up on ovi.com [With PC]
2. Enter your cell number there [With PC]
3. An SMS would be sent, to cell
4. With that SMS, cell would be configured to sync up with Ovi.com
5. Start Sync on cell, this will store contacts on site

Once you are done with step #5, you are done. Let me know if you can see contacts on site.

Then you would need to do similar steps to download them on new cell phone.

This would happen through GPRS. Total cost for 3 - 400 contacts would be less then 10 Rs.

One problem though,
since my slider is broken off completely, i wont be able to see the message. Would it still happen?
I will just hear the message coming but will not be able to open it.

I think there is step by step tutorial on site. That *might* do the rick.

Message will open for sure, but you have to press a few more buttons to save the settings, you will have to coordinate all that without screen.

EDIT : If screen is broken, then it would be tough to do all this.
Talk to neighborhood cell shop, they might be able to attach a slider temporarily and transfer the contacts.

@netfreak - buddy, this whole process would've been a lot easier if I was in Mumbai. But I am in the states till July and it is impossible for anyone to do the screen up at a low cost.
I could've functioned with the broken screen as I could have attached the PC Suite and do it up (have done it before on another phone), but the problem here is that the screen along with the important buttons are in the slider.

@aza - thanks. I will give that a shot.

Default frankmehta needs a new Mobile phone :-P

another one of those threads where i WANT

I have a budget of 25-30k but I am in no hurry to buy a new phone. Don't see the 'perfect phone' in the market right now.
Using my 6630 for now.
  • I have owned the n95, iPhone 3G 16Gb, Samsung Omnia 16Gb, the E71 and the 5800 in the last few months. So yeah, been there done that
  • I DETEST windows mobile and will not buy any phone running it. The Omnia was enough of a PITA.
  • I find touchscreen phones slightly cumbersome to type, since I have big fingers, and I appreciate tactile response!
  • I do not like the current Blackberries due to their antiquated interfaces. They are sooo early 2000s.
  • The 5800 was my 13th Symbian OS phone. Yep, I am tired of Symbian now!
  • I NEED wi-fi and a slightly large screen, because I do a lot of web browsing and emailing.
  • I would love a QWERTY but nothing that makes it tough to carry!
  • NO SONY ERICSSONS PLEASE!
There, my Dillema is HUGE. Nothing fits right now. Any suggestions??

Can you'll suggest me some phones that could interest me?

PS: the LG Arena Km900 and the 'new' iPhone rumoured to arrive next month are on the top of my list.

Aah.. the usual !
Get a freakin' Nokia 1208 - awesome phone. In the remaining money, keep a secretary to handle everything else.

Hold on for the new Blackberries- But frankly the OS is not going to be much different. Its a business phone and will not have the iPhone like funkiness.

Try it- you will start liking it. I did. I got my Bold in January and am quite pleased with what it can do.

Any reason for disliking Sony Ericsson? My 3yr old K750 works like a charm, so does the P series. IMO, Xperia, P1i are good phones.

+1 to that. Bold single handedly impresses at the speed at which it processes things. It just does not seem like a phone at all and i am not even talking about the rich colors that it throws out from it's interface.
