Turns out I have the DS200.
And i remember why I didnt get the MW.
Because it was too expensive.

This is the one I have, no fm, no nothing, just beautiful sound, and the backup I mentioned.

I am looking out for a phone in Mumbai.
Please suggest a touch screen phone in the range of 7000/- to 12000/-.
also what features are must have for the phone. It would be nice if someone can point out to some phone or features to look out for.
Thanks in advance.

Look at Sony Xperia mini, it is within your budget.

I am actually considering it as my potential backup phone. If my Defy or wife's Wildfire S fail, I am keeping this in mind for a quick purchase.

Avoid the ace plus. avoid any samsung phones sub-20K as they are overpriced and lacking in specifications compared to the competition.

Windows phone - Samsung omnia W

Android - motorola defy/defy plus,HTC desire S

Symbian - DONT

(i just listed the options in the 14-15k price range with official warranties, there are many options in the +2k price range and cheaper options if you are fine with no warranty )

Thanks Bluengel.

I think will explore "HTC desire", any other phone which i can look into am not a fan of "Motorola"

Am looking for a trouble free, sturdy phone which also can used for "navigation"

what about Nokia Lumnia?

Any windows/android phone will offer decent navigation support. it will depend on the application you use and on your screen size, bigger is better for navigation

The lumnia 710 doesnt have a front facing camera IIRC, the omnia W has both a front camera and a AMOLED screen.

And here is the Desire S at saholic

First of all, why do you feel that either of these phones is likely to fail ? Is it because they are being mishandled by kids ?

Are you not bothered by the lack of internal memory and the excessive thickness of SE Xperia mini ?

As a backup phone, Samsung Galaxy Pocket is immensely VFM, if you can get past the small screen and low resolution.

If you could wait for a while, Samsung Galaxy mini 2 is about to be launched. I expect it to be priced competitively.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus seems like a decent mid range phone. 1 GHz processor, 3 GB internal memory, 3.65" display, 5 MP camera, GPS etc.

At 15k, it comes bundled with a Bluetooth headset. I wouldn't call it overpriced or lacking in specifications.

First of all you need to decide what OS you want - Android, Windows, Symbian or Bada.

If you are not particular about OS and not much into apps, you could consider Symbian and Bada phones too.

I would suggest Nokia 603. Nokia phones come with pre-loaded maps and life time voice navigation.

Samsung Wave 3 could also be considered.

Among the Android phones, Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus and Motorola Defy Plus are good options.

I would avoid Nokia Lumia 710 for the simple reason that internal memory is limited and there is no provision for expandable memory.

Samsung bada is a dead end. They've abandoned it for the Tizen OS.

320 x 480 screen and an outdated GPU. thats the resolution entry-level phones use. screen resolution is especially important when it comes to navigation and plenty of other applications. frankly if i'm paying 15K i expect a decent screen which is on par (if not better) than the competition. because thats what i'll be looking at most of the time . and even with specs its priced on-par with the sony neo V. compare both the phones and you'll realize how low-spec the samsung is .

My wife has dropped her phone many times, even cat has only 9 lives. My Defy gave me a scare recently when it refuse to charge. Only after it fully discharged, it started charging again. That made me start thinking about a backup.

No. I am not a heavy user, and I like small phones.

Are you kidding me, that is a 240x320 resolution phone, with a 2MP non-AF camera. Didn't know they still made smartphones with such outdated specs.

This looks more acceptable, but what's with the crappy camera.

Got my wife a Sony Xperia S. What a lovely phone and a brilliant display. Have a ripped version of my Avatar Blue Ray copy and it looks mindblowing when seen on the X S.

Great phone unless you wanna buy into quad core drama.

Motorola has just launched the Defy Mini and the Defy XT.

Motorola Defy XT and Defy Mini launched starting at Rs. 11,490

Might want to check these out.

For navigation, i find HTC / Moto phones better as they get quicker GPS locks.

Samsung phones(barring the Note, and other high ends) take long time to get a lock.

Nokia is a better alternative with their own Nokia maps.
