Okay, I have had this question in my mind for quite some time now, so decided to put it up finally today here. With a large number of Indian phone manufacturers like MMX, XOLO, Karbonn, etc. offering very tempting phones at very very competitive prices, it it really good deal to go for them? I mean, what about the durability and reliability of the devices? Do they even last for a year(at least)? Long term users may be able to comment. Please advice as I'm looking to get a cheap android within 10K. Currently using a Lumia 520.

HTC dual sim phone with CDMA/GSM is a pretty good phone. I have using it with my Tata Indicom sim and so far so good! The battery life is excellent, that's the problem I had faced with all my earlier CDMA phones.

I had bought 2 MMX Mobiles- X560 and Q7 on 13 Sep. 2011 from Infibeam.com for our employees.
The X560 has been trouble free till date.
But Q7's JoyStick Ball (Don't know what word to use if this is incorrect) had to be replaced once last year and the Charger/USB Connector had to be replaced twice (this was due to user fault not connecting the charger properly that resulted in damaged Connector).

I bought a lumia 720 on 4/8/2013 and its screen shattered during its first fall from my lap itself. I have been quoted Rs 9000 for replacing the 720 screen by Nokia Care ,Trivandrum. If I spend 9k over the 720 it would turn out to be a bigger investment which I feel not worth it.
Planning to swap the 720 for a new android phone.
Visited the Sony World and experienced the ZL. Users of ZL please throw light on how it is ?

Strange that there is such a wide disparity in the prices quoted by Nokia Care. Why don't you give another Nokia Care Centre a try before switching phones. Personally, I am a fan of windows phone.

Looking for a mobile phone for my parents. Priorities in descending order of importance

1. Video calling capability
2. Ease of use
3. Durability
4. Affordable (definitely less than 10K)

I would like to stick to the well known brands unless something else is offering tremendous value along with the points mentioned above.

Any suggestions?

#1 and #4 don't really overlap well IMHO. Many cheap phones (HTC chacha for 12k in May '12) don't have a front cam that works properly with Skype for instance. Please do your homework before buying.

Xolo Q800 or Q700 is for you. Don't worry Xolo is comparable to so called well known brands. In fact have been using 800 since last month. And please note I have used handsets like Note 1, Razr maxx, Grand, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4, and this handset gives the most VFM.

If video calling is a priority, go for a handset with high resolution front camera. Most budget androids will have VGA camera which gives poor quality video.

If you could raise the budget slightly, I would advice Samsung Galaxy S Advance. It has 1.3 MP front camera, 5 MP rear camera, HD recording, dual core processor, 4 inch AMOLED display, Jelly Bean 4.1, 16 GB internal memory.

Guys I have a query. I am looking at the Lumia 720 for my next purchase. Can anyone please enlighten me about the sound quality through the headphone. I really need a good music player. AFAIK the headphones look ordinary.

Question re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

BHPians

Any idea about Spice mobiles? The model Mi-535 Pinnacle particularly interested me because of specs. Unfortunately its not available on Flipkart but on Spice website saholic. Priced at 14K, is it worth it?

Purchased a Lenovo P780 today from Amazon.in for Rs. 16989/- (using the 10% discount offer from HDFC Cards). 10% i.e., max of Rs. 1500 will be refunded in next 45 days which I am OK with.

Sole reason to buy - 4000mAh battery for a touch screen smart phone which people claim lasts for 2+ days.

Yeah, only that the rising dollar has taken off some of the sheen from this offer. Else at the dollar rate at which i got it (55 Rs) this was a mega steal at approx 14K.

True, but I guess the prices of the other branded phones could also go up now with the dollar process going up.

Anyway, for the specs the Nexus was always a steal. Now it's bargain basement prove!!!
