- What formats can you record in?
- What is the current price range?

As for the format, it will play in any DVD player manufactured after 2000.
Price: high end ones cost around 50K in india. The panasonic one has a 80GB HDD and should be yours for about 48K.
Without HDD, the sony models are 44K. the 160GB HDD recorder is 69K.
Get one from the US, a non HDD model will cost you < 20K

Thanks tsk! That last link was really informative.

can these recorders be used with pc.....to burn non-video data???

For PC use you need a DVD-writer which is pretty cheap(6000rs). Infact a TV tuner card+DVD writer will set you back by only 10K, however these recorders will cost minimum 30K.

yep, i know about the PC-link DVD-writer.........i just wanted to ask about these stand-alone DVD-recorders..as i want to keep tv and dvd watching independent of my PC...while being able to use burning capibilities for the PC....

Cost is no bar if i get what i want :)

Burnt Rubber, I would use a hard disk based system for this purpose. Sorta like TiVo.

If cost is no objective, buy a DVD burner for the PC and a DVD Recorder for the TV.... finding one deivce to do both jobs is going to be very tough!

Its easy. Just go to Sony showroom and pay 50K.
