Excuse me for the delayed reply. Yes the PU material is good to be used as a stable support while typing and for video viewing angles. In fact I use it mostly in folded triangle shape. It has not shown any sign of wear and tear and is quite easy to clean and maintain. I am getting another one in a different shade.

Good buy mate, I love the sound that it makes while it attaches itself and while it closes, apple ad video is not lying.

If you have the need for one, just go for it, still none of the others are there as yet. However, I must warn that it's a money sucking vortex, so many apps and so much fun that you get addicted. I have been spending mostly on books and international magazines that were so elusive to get in India ontime.

I have a black 64 gb 3G+wifi model and it serves me right. Choose wisely.

Its basically gonna be a gift for my wife on our 1st Anniversary. I own a 3GS and she is using iPod Touch 2nd Gen. Her basic use would be some games, Twitter, Facebook and browsing. She is impressed on the iPad and thought of getting it.
Think 3G is still not reachable in India and I can stick with the Wifi model. What ya say?

Better to go for WiFi. You can always use your cell phone for 3G and share Cell phone's 3G connection with iPad over WiFi.

Yeah if she is not mobile all the time and it's not mission critical then a wifi is good. She will love it. 3G is offered in delhi by Airtel, Vodafone, MTNL.

Downside: you need to be Apple rule follower with it. It's not light as you might think ( still light enough ). Pay for apps

Hey bro, but not many of us carry cell phones that can act as hub. I use a humble e61 and C5 is there a hack on phone?

She is a homemaker and we have a unlimited wifi broadband at home feeding her boredom.
I meant 3G not reachable as far as the rates are concerned. Only downside is, I cant stream my Edge/3G using my 3GS. Only the iP4 supports wifi hotspot. Damn!!

Yes it saved money on additional 3G connection. Not aware of any downside with iPad 2.

You are in luck E61 works fine as a hotspot. Just install Joikuspot on it.

Almost all Nokia and Android phones will work as hotspot.

If your phone is jailbroken, you can use this app on 3GS : MyWi 4.0 - iPhone® WiFi Tethering and iPad®

Don't worry she won't need 3G.

Thank you mate, I now need to do it the other way as my iPad is already working on 3G. I use it with the prepaid 99 plan only if it's really necessary. Quite expensive. Office and home are wifi enabled.

Off late my iPad is loosing wifi signal without reason. The issue is not regular but irritating.
is it because of the higher encryption setting on wifi and I use mac filter as well?

To buy a new gadget the best time is always NOW, since there is always an update and new releases
i preferred to go for 3G because that makes the device useful outside my wifi zone too

I would opt for the 3G if the iPad is for me. Since it is for my wife, no immediate requirement for the usage of iPad outside our wifi vicinity. If at all need arises, my 3GS can help

I use an iPad Wifi Only, and whenever I need internet on my iPad on the go, I tether it with my phone's 3G connection. The Wifi only iPad saves you quite a lot, and since a lot of people have a smartphone nowadays, using the Tethering Options is quite viable.

Does the tethering option work when you are on roaming? I see that option disabled in my case. Asks me to contact the service provider. Works fine when I am on the local network.

I have successfully tethered my iPad from my Android Phone, while roaming.
The constraint, that you have noticed, may be configurable, and may have been put there as a safeguard to prevent the user from incurring prohibitively high charges for data usage when on roaming; but should be something that can be over-ridden.

to get the tethering done, you have to root the smartphone, i have a Xperia X10i which i need to root, but AFAIK there are risks involved, is there any other way out as given in XDADEVELOPERS where they suggest to use Barnacle but even that needs phone to be rooted
