For all TINTIN Afficionados:
Guys there is a Tintin app available on the App Store for $5. It has ALL the books published till date.
Version 1 was quite slow and buggy, and this led to bad ratings initially (myself included), but Version 2 is acceptably fast and stable.

Highly Recommended.

After all each book costs over $5 individually.

I bought the 32GB WiFi iPad 2 couple of days back during my visit to Dubai. It's an interesting device and the experience so far has been exciting. I did look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1" and that one too was quite a tempting option. The iPad prevailed in the end.

Couple of questions:

1) When I connect the iPad to my 2007 MacBook, it says "not charging". The fact is that it does get charged at a very slow rate. I disconnected the device from the MacBook after some time and the battery % had increased. Apple's support community page describes this as a normal issue when the computer's USB Ports do not have enough power to charge external large devices such as the iPad.

Have anyone else also experienced this? The charging icon is displayed when I charge off the wall outlet.

2) How does one enable the option to turn the screen off when the cover is closed and vice versa when the cover is opened? I am using a third party leather-ish cover that covers both the back and the front of the iPad.

Settings -> General -> iPad Cover Lock/Unlock. Set this to On.

While the Samsung galaxy tab is superb, the ipad2 clearly has the edge in design. My wife fell for it and bought it some time back in America and caused me now to really go mad about it too! I e of course appropriated it for my own use and like a kid, am fiddling with it at every opportunity!
Lovely toy indeed! I've got the VGA adapter too so I can actually start using it as my business machine instead of suffering with the laptop etc!
What fun!
A thing of beauty is a joy forever said Keats - I couldn't agree more especially whenever I see the ipad2. Very elegant machine. Perhaps I may be inspired to convert to Mac book air as well! Cheers.

Ipad cover screen lock/unlock function wont work for you if you are not using the apple smart cover that is magnetic. Since you are using a third party cover, i doubt that it is magnetic so this function wont work on your ipad.

Folks,

I need some help before I make the plunge and make a purchase.

Background:

I am an android fan and was waiting for android tablets and tablet market apps to mature. I am kind of becoming impatient now as the android tablet apps market has not really taken off and so ready to take the plunge into iOS with iPad. I am used to android's flexibility and well aware that there may be serious limitations when I move to iOS.

I took my daughter (4 years) to an Apple reseller near my house and she was completely at home with the iPad and enjoyed the apps/games. She is not completely at ease with my android phone. The primary use of the iPad will be for browsing, checking emails and education & entertainment of my daughter. I am planning to pick an iPad this weekend and need some help on the following questions:

Questions:
1. For my needs, any comments on how the iPad will fit my needs? I don't want it to become an expensive toy that gathers dust
2. What is the best price that I can get an iPad for. The reseller close to my home is quoting Rs. 29,000 for 16 GB Wifi after bargaining from sticker price of Rs. 29,500. He is a very small setup and just opened shop. I am not sure if it is safe to buy from him.
3. I have read about light bleed issues. What ALL should I look for when I buy? Is there a pre delivery check list?
4. I am also having a difficult time in choosing a color. Any suggestions? I am inclined towards black as the black bezel (I think) enhances/contrasts with the screen
5. Any suggestions from Chennai team members on where I can buy an iPad reliably and for the best price? I want easy returns/replacements if the iPad is defective
6. I also need suggestions on a budget but functional ipad case within say Rs. 800. I am ready to pay more ONLY if the cases less than Rs. 800 are no good. I am looking for cases that can provide automatic wake/sleep and can be propped in multiple angles for typing or viewing videos. Don't really care about the brand or material as long as it can protect the ipad and be functional

Given the fact that dollar is strengthening, I want to buy before the prices get jacked up!

@KRN

Welcome to the gang. iOS can be replaced by jailbreak and you can enjoy as much as your kid on iPad.

I have a black and its gorgeous. I am PC free too love the concept.

There are lots of cases, I would suggest original ipad smart cover however with kids I suggest many options, chose yours online from many available.

I checked this and there is no such option under Settings - General. Are you using a jail broken iPad?

You must be right. Mine is the non magnetic third party cover. I wanted something that protects both the front and back of the iPad. The smart cover looks really sleek I must admit but leaves the back of the iPad totally vulnerable.

Thanks Sn1p3r!

Any ideas on what is the best price for the 16 GB Wifi model? I presume that Apple stores typically won't let you bargain the price down.

The normal iOS has it inherently, scroll down a bit. What version are you on?

Third party will also work if it's magnetic, apple does not differentiate between magnets, just put a simple magnet and it operates.

I am on 5.0.1. I still don't see the option. I have checked thoroughly. Sorry to ask but can post a screenshot showing this option that you see on your device?

I am not very keen on adding a magnet to the cover. While I would have loved to have the auto screen sleep/wake up option, I would stay away from experimenting by adding a magnet to the cover. Thanks for the suggestion anyways.

My brother's iPad has the original apple smart case and I bought him a case mate plastic back cover from croma that fits fits perfectly with it. Thus protecting both the back and front. That said I prefer the third party cover I have bought for my iPad it has a magnetic front cover that works perfectly fine.

This is what I see on my device. I am baffled to see its different from what you see on your device. Any idea what could be the reason for this?

I have seen close to 10 different cases for the iPad and each one claims to be unique in some way or the other. It's good to have multiple options besides the Apple smart cover.
