@vcash; Get yourself an Incredible2. I have one and love it. It is a world phone (CDMA + GSM- only one active at a time). I had a Samsung Epic 4G before then, was unlucky, got a problem so traded it in. You may contact dkaile here or other good suppliers like HetalDP from Rimweb. I guess the Dinc2 is about 20-22k. Dinc2 is excellent, only rooting htc phones is a bit of a pain, since first you have to get S-off. revolutionary.io will get you there.

I have read posts indicating that this would not manage to cope up the discharging rate, but someone else who has actually tried that could comment.

With GPS on, and map application running continuously, I think you would have to charge the phone daily.
I've tried it without any problems. The battery will not discharge.

Please let me clarify. I do not use a Samsung so cant really give an affirmative answer. I use a HTC. However, there are 2 options as per the research I've done.

1. Use Launcher Pro as a replacement to Touchwiz. No need to root.

2. Root the phone and there are plethora of options thereafter. You don't have to be afraid of rooting. There are multiple ways to do it and refer to something credible like XDA or Android Forums. (of course your warranty will be void). After all, Android is all about open source :-)

S-OFF is not a requirement for rooting, at least for my HTC Desire it wasn't. I got permanent root with unrevoked3 without ever going S-OFF. Months later I did switch my phone to S-OFF using Alpharev.

Yes, LauncherPro is really good. I switched to L.Pro from Go Launcher which was going worse from update to update.

Rooting voids the warranty but there are ways to bring back your phone into factory condition if it needs a visit to service center

I am not too keen on getting a gray market import. Will give it a skip.

Nice! Will go the launcher pro route. I checked it out in the market place and like it!

In Android universe, you can go with Samsung SII. Meets most of your requirements out of the box and in the price band. Only downside is, its too big and plasticy in looks (so doesnt look that premium). But you have mentioned you dont want to root. Then why Android?

Nexus will be pricy, I expect in Iphone 4S/Razr range.

I'd still say Lumia 800 is a great choice. Most of the useful apps would already be there on WinOS platform as well. And it is proven to be the most stable OS out there (google for it). The latest Metro UI is quite beautiful and useful as well. And cant go wrong with Nokia (their build quality is miles ahead of the plasticky Samsung). Anyway, your phone your call
Still not feeling the Lumia but will read up on it. 4S is out - way over budget and it's too closed. For example, I want to back up my texts to gmail. Only android has that as of now. Shame about the Nexus S. Was looking forward to it.

On a side note, Letsbuy just increased the SII price back to 29,900 from 28,500 that means that post discount I can get it for 26,900.

So now the R is a whole Rs. 4500 cheaper! So the question is, for my needs with the launcher pro, is the R worth it over the SII.

Honestly after all the recommendations, I was going to buy the SII this weekend (Provided the Nexus didn't launch at a crazy Rs. 30K?) But now, I am back to square one! Should I just do the R now. Any idea whether it will get ICS?

So confused!!

@vcash; I am afraid almost all high end CDMA phones are grey market. The Official Reliance/Tata lists are pathetic and obsolete. Incidentally, while they are grey imports, the phones are registered with Reliance (Tata does not allow 'outside' phones). The vendor also got my EVDO activated. Also, he unlocked the GSM part for me. So it is fully legit with Reliance.

If you want a 'legal' phone then one I can recommend is Galaxy Pop CDMA well under 10k. This is an OMH unit. I think you PM dkaile and he will be able to advise about the latest.

My key criteria for an OS upgrade is stability, battery life. and performance (in that order).

Some posts indicate that CM 7 is poorer to the stock 2.2.2 and even 2.3 in terms of battery life. Hence I would like to try out 2.3 first and then see if CM7 is where I should be headed towards. In all cases, I need the ability to roll back to my stock 2.2.2 which Motorola has provided.

EDIT: I came across this link, in case I need to roll back to Froyo (2.2.2). Hope this is the best link and there is nothing else I need to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1093352

I had similar requirements and got the Defy in July/ August. It was 14.2K (final price) on Letsbuy. There is a newer version Defy+ which is a couple of thousand more.

Note that with Defy you would have to charge the phone every 3 days based on your usage (which is similar to mine). This is with no GPS, no GPRS, no WiFi, no music - just basic phone and messaging.

I am assuming that GPS is used only on long drives since it eats up the battery in a few hours. You would also need a provision to charge your phone in the car (I have purchased a Belkin travel adapter for Rs. 1450) and a windshield mount (or something similar) to complete your GPS solution.
The Belkin device gives AC output from the 12 V cigarette lighter socket.
(USB charging is slow, so I did not want to use that option)

Maps from Sygic are around Rs. 2000 and tied to the hardware (I think). So use the trial first and then pay them.

Regarding GPS, although the phone in stock form can handle the Sygic application, it is slow at times and gets stuck. So, a faster CPU is really required for such heavy applications.

I am yet to try an upgrade of Android and see if that helps. There is also a newer version of Sygic and will try that as well, but it will take me around one month to find time and do all of this.
Ah yes. In my previous reply for u I'd advised u to use the official cm7 zip.

XDA offers Sygic for free? I never thought XDA is 'warez' in nature. I got my copy of Sygic from an Android cracked app store. (Please don't ask me from where, don't want to share it here) Used it for a while and uninstalled as it is completely useless in my place. Gogle Maps Navigation - though it is not anywhere near perfect - does a much better job. Trivandrum city has a road network more complex than the neuron wiring in your brain but Sygic shows only NH47 and two or three other roads!

But they do deliver the product although there might be delays.
expect roughly 15days of delivery time.

Also note that if octroi is applicable to your region, then you will have to
pay it. I think thats not the case with flipkart and letsbuy.
so for cost comparison across these portals, do consider the octroi part.

The good think is that sulekha does flash the octroi payment message when you select the shipping destination.

Overall expect the product via bad service.
Had ordered samsung galaxy s plus i9003 (4gb)(so many versions!) from sulekha on sunday night.
Got it delivered today (friday).

Initially the sulekha team didnt update my account with shipping details. so was worried and impatiently had mailed them.
They simply replied stating "expect 6 days for delivery".
But on tuesday/wednesday the shipping details were updated in the account.
Also there was no vat charges taken. the bill does mention that it includes
all taxes, vat.

So let me take back my comment.
Here's a to the sulekha team for providing me the cheapest price with equally good customer service.

Funnily, I am seeing plastic-cover-bag of indianplaza and actual dealer to be some praveen gift centre from bangalore.
so that makes 2 more sub-dealers and still sulekha was offering the cheapest price!

The final price on the bill is 17.047k
Just wondering how these guys work behind the scenes.

I thought Sygic is a paid app. Though its initially available as free download in the Market, its only a 7 day trial.

Pls correct me if it isn't the case!
