Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Is there any app that can map the signal strength locally.
See, in my house, some areas have 0 network, some get edge, some get 3g/H.
i just wanted to see where i get the max strength.
I saw 3g y'day, and shared the connection, and went off.
came back, the phone was STILL transferrinbg at only 10kBps after 30 minutes, when on 3g it would have been over and done with in 3-4 minutes!

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Installed Plan B, it works like a charm. It even starts the phone GPS automatically after some time, if it has been turned off initially, to give a more accurate location. Loved this app. It might be a real savior for one & all. However what bothers me is will a thief also get access to my GMail account on the cell? If so then this might be a bigger problem then a solution.

Try Network Info II, has almost all parameters covered.

Could be a chinese rip-off, we see these days in the market. Micromax, Onida, Videocon, Ajanta, Koryo, Karrbon, Spice, Lemon, Mango, Maxx and what not, all these are chinese phones with these branding. RCom's Tab could also be one of those Chinese Clones. My 2 cents on this.

None of these Ultrasound producing apps really work. I had seen mosquitoes dancing around the speaker while it was running.

1 Ghz processor along 512MB RAM + 4GB Internal looks decent.

See the reviews on letsbuy page itself, someone said its Heavy
I would not mind having a surfing capable device at 11K which has actual 1Ghz CPU but this doesn't has 3G, so looks like it has only basic connectivity for people who want to use it on the move.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Got Motorola Defy yesterday (had ordered via LetsBuy on Saturday night). The cash on delivery option does not work with the RCOM** and ICICI** coupons any more. Hence I had to pay via card up front.

Anyway, now that I have got the device, initial feeling is a bit overwhelming. Still getting used to the complexity of Android and Swype.
I cannot download the Motorola Phone Tools from Motorola website. There is no direct link and I am asked to contact customer support for this.
Do we need to register the phone serial number for getting warranty?

EDIT: I was trying to figure out how to get my contacts from my earlier phone Nokia E51 to my Defy.
I exported all my contacts to my new memory card. Now in Defy, I can see a Contacts folder in File Manager (in Android). However, I cannot select the entire Contacts folder and import.
Also, if I go into this Contacts folder, I can see all my old contacts as .vcf files. I need to select each of those checkboxes and then select import from vcf.
Since the contacts are more than 400, this is not a solution for me. Anyone can suggest how I can create new contacts from .vcf files quickly?
EDIT 2: How do I get my SMS messages from Inbox and Sent items from my Nokia phone to Defy?

For the contacts part, sync your nokia e51 to outlook using nokia pc suite/ovi suite. Then sync outlook to your defy.
Worked for me when i changed from 5800 to SGSL.

Not sure how to sync the messages tho and if at all it can be done

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Guys, how do we enable the Navigation option? In my SGS2, it says that the feature is not available for my location (I stay in Pune). Any inputs for the same?

Well the best for me was to send all contacts by bluetooth from Nokia to Android. Takes 3-5 min for all 400 contacts. Worked well for me.

For SMSes I tried, but didnt find any solution. so gave up.
