Can one browse or download stuff using the 299 plan unknowingly ?
You may have to change the profile/ connectivity to wifi at home. If you use the default profile, it could still connect thru BB profile.

Sam did you check out the Bold and 8900 as well? Is the trackball problematic to use?

I have been using my 8900 for 6 months and don't find the trackball a problem. You just need to be careful . i always have a case to protect the trackball.
If you put the phone in your pocket directly, the ball may suck in some pocket lint and cause headaches.

Is there a feature or 3rd party app that can stop data transfer services/incoming emails at a designated time?
My dad's a workaholic and this phone has made him insomnic too, he replies to emails at absurd hours too. Need to put an end to this to stop emailing pouring in after 9pm or so.

I think you should buy him one of these CrackBerry: True Tales of BlackBerry Use and Abuse (Book Review) | CIO - Blogs and Discussion He must be new on crack he will mellow down eventually. You can disable the data manually everyday but I dont know if it can be scheduled automatically.

Sahil, just use to Auto-ON/OFF feature on the Blackberry. You can set it to turn off after 9 pm and turn on at 8 am.

I am assuming your Dad would have another voice line, where-in he could be reached in case of an emergency.

Since I carry 2 cellphones, I Auto shut off my blackberry many a times and divert calls to my other phone, thereby not missing out on calls. Yes, Text Messages would be an issue, but you can't get everything. Else as QD mentioned, you'll have to do it manually everyday.

I guess the only option is BlackBerry Profile Scheduler - Personal Productivity Blackberry Apps
But the damn app is a trial version, full version is 10$. Anyone seen a free version of this or a similar app?

This way i can set a profile to turn off email sounds at night and switch back off in the morning.

Features such as this, auto keylock, vibrate & ringing together, etc are available on the most basic phones but RIM decides to omit them and users have to resort to 3rd party app. Dont get their logic !

Sahil>
Another alternative is to keep the phone with you overnight everynight.
Restrict access in unearthly hours !

I have a friend who has been a nokia E series user and recently he picked up a 8900 on my advice and now he is asking me to help transfer contacts from N to B...any simple way to do it?

I'm a Moto Q9h user so it's safe to say some detail would be required since i'm quite unfamiliar with both Nokia and Berry interfaces :(

thanks

tell him to use nokia pc suite and sync his contacts to outlook from his e series. then use blackberry desktop manager and sync contacts from outlook to the 8900.
