1) Is the extra space I get with the Indica reason enough to go with it? I'm planning on the high end models of both - so Indica is costlier by about 20-30k.

here is the price list of indica xeta for bangalore for different models
GL-BS III Rs. 2,66,107/-
GLE-BS III Rs. 2,91,566/-
GLS-BS III Rs. 3,11,935/-
GLG-BS III Rs. 3,36,947/-
GLX-BS III Rs. 3,66,756/-
the price list for santro different models
Solid /Metallic /ScarletSage-VJ
EX SHOWROOM PRICE 2,78,998.00 /2,82,972.00 /2,86,167.00

Solid /Metallic /Scarlet Sage-VJ
EX SHOWROOM PRICE 3,31,894.00 /3,35,871.00 /3,39,065.00

Solid /Metallic /ScarletSage-VJ
EX SHOWROOM PRICE 3,55,400.00 /3,59,372.00 /3,62,568.00

Solid /Metallic /Scarlet Sage-VJ
EX SHOWROOM PRICE 3,81,999.00 /3,85,973.00 /3,89,167.00
Solid /Metallic /Scarlet Sage-VJ
EX SHOWROOM PRICE 4,24,326.00 /4,28,300.00 /4,31,495.00

from this it is clear that indica is cheaper for all the versions not santro. both the prices are ex showroom

enormous compared to Santro et al.....I believe Santro etc are below 10kgm so additional 2.4/3 Kgm is quite a bit. Even my pre-tweaking Indica (75 PS ) gives 11kgm

I would like to tell you is Go for wagon R (Premia) as i also owe the same. I am getting a Good Average of 16KMPL. I drove nearly 60Km daily.
On Sat & Sun i go out for a long drive in Hilly areas near by Pune as I stay in Pune.

Car is really good for me as i am 5.11Feet tall and heavy too.
Our Family of 5 travel to Gujarat that is 400KM from Pune and it is really a comfortable...
You get a very large boot space which no small car can give..

Now the price is also gone down so opt for Wagon R (Limited Edition)....

Indica Xeta for you dude, in comparison to Santro, Rear space is inadequate for 3 definitely, you have a bumpy ride in a Santro if the roads are bad. I presume Indica can take those bumps in its stride. I personally feel Xeta is a better looker than the Santro Xing and WagonR and as some people have mentioned latter in this thread as well,

I would say stick to Xeta Petrol.
