My vote goes to the Swift if you decide to go with a petrol.

Diesel (Indica) with 13kmpl mileage for 600 kms per month = 46 litres = Rs.1978.

You will roughly save Rs. 600 per month ; Rs 7200 per annum.

If diesel go for Indica Turbo (not much choice in this segment !)
Comfortable car, rear seats more spacious & comfy than Santro/WagonR. You will get good FE and decent pickup.
Only driving pleasure (in city) may be relatively less than WagonR/Santro.

However, given your budget and criteria, if I had to choose I would probably have gone for the Getz.

Just to confuse you a bit, if you do consider the Indica, you could also get the Indigo in that price range.
Well no big hatch will give you 13 kmpl in city!

Swift/Getz max 12 kmpl in city, 600 Kms = 50 litres X 56 Rs/Litre = 2800

Indica Turbo *atleast* 15 kmpl, 600 kms = 40 litres X 43 Rs/Litre = 1720

So u save atleast 1080 Rs a month and 13000 Rs a year!

But then you will have to bear up with the irritating diesel noise and you won't get the Fun to drive feel which only a petrol car can give. And aren't Tata cars high on maintenence compared to either the Swift or the Getz??? And to top it all both the Getz and the Swift are in a totally different cars which are much more modern than the Indica which is maybe more than 10 years old now. They have much better build quality, better ride, better quality interiors, much better fit and finish and engines which are a generation or 2 ahead of the Indica's unit.

Cheers

Dunno bout the FE but have heard reports of anything between 9-11 in city.

Even driving wise, the car is too softly sprung to be any fun to drive. The swift runs circles around the Getz.

Plus, the biggest worry is the company Hyundai. There is a danger of Hyundai going the Daewoo way and having burnt my fingers with Daewoo once, wouldn't really advise anyone to look at Hyundai for now.
Hyundai is VFM. And Hyundai does sell well in India and abroad and boasts very good cars in terms of reliablity and quality.

Space + economy; Xeta if you are under 700km/mon or its Turbo Indica

Or Getz it should be.

SWIFT - If u are a hardcore driver n never like to leave the driver's seat(Its a drivers car), sweet engine but no space inside...
GETZ - All rounder, practical, spacious n a big car feel...
IKON - Fantastic seats, comfortable, good handling but poor brakes

From my experience, the brakes of the IKon feel spongy and don't give you the confidence which you need while braking the beast the Ikon 1.6 is. Anyways, i feel the brakes are sufficient for the IKon 1.3. The brakes of the Ikon takee a bit of getting used to.

Cheers
