Confused :( - Swift or City (old) or Lancer (old)?

First, the Flashback. I have a Ford Escort which met with a serious accident months ago. Its in the garage and desperately crying for engine beds. The engine is safe and only the regulator fan and other stuff got damaged. The car will be ready by this month end. We really had a tough time searching for parts as the car went out of production. Now my dad is thinking of selling the car after its repair because in future we may encounter another problem with parts again.

Now regarding the new car in the option list are Swift Vxi and Lancer(old)... I zeroed on Swift coz its new, looks good and drives good. Now I came across many forums here related to Honda city (Old) guess its Vtec. Now i had seen that and thats not a bad car either. Its not that am buying now but just i want the right info. Now ;

1. Regarding the performance...which is better? Swift or City?
2. How much will a second hand well maintained City cost?
3. Should i stick with my Escort?

Now am in a dilema regarding which is a nice shot? Escort, Swift or City.

I may do some performance mods to a city or Escort but not for swift. K&N air filter and free-flow exhaust is compulsory for any car. Any headunit with JBL components will be fitted. And some exterior mods like side skirting, alloys, tyres, spoiler, stickering, vinyls, etc etc.

BTW looking at the prices of fuel rocketing sky high day after day ..... i want to fit a LPG Gas kit also

As for you dilema, dont worry, Tbhpians have a ready answer to it.
Yes, the OHC V-tec since you will also be doing performance mods.
Keep abt 4 to 5 lacs for a good car.

But pls pls dont ever think of running your performance modded city on gas. No sense investing so much then. Rather you continue with your F.Escort. Its my sincere advice, with which many will agree.

First, sorry about your Escort which is in the Garage now.
If you don't mind buying a car which has very less leg room in front and back, i would suggest you go for Swift top end model. Otherwise the car is manufactured with lot of new technology. I would say it is the car for the new generation.

Sorry bout the escort dude!

Since u need a gas kit, teh swift is out since by the time u manage to shoe horn teh gas cylinder into teh boot, u will have place left only for a tissue paper!

My suggesstion is to go for a lancer.

I am assuming ur budget is 5.5 - 6 L. In that case u should seriously look at a new Petra.

The boot is huge, the car is amazingly solid adn with that twin cam engine, it can kick *** of anything this side of an OHC Vtec.

Plus it would fall right into ur price point.

Keep in mind that new car +peace of mind for at least 3 years

Guys i forgot i am going to use the car for only 4 years and after that sell it. And the Escort is still crying there and my uncle is searching at Mumbai. Will get in touch with him tommorow.... and ill make my car look new condition and then sell it

Oh sorry dude, I must have misread that u somehow managed to get the parts for your escort.

BTW did your uncle find out with shetty motor store in Mumbai at Opera House near Kennedy bridge? If not then tell him to do so.

Its not exactly my uncle.... my uncle sent a spare parts dealer guy there to search. I hope he found something. No they dint ill call him up and tell him about that shop. Thanx for the help

I actually dont want to spend loads to get a "NEW" ride coz its only for 4 years and the resale will be bad. BTW i know that the Escort is a very nice car ... so what do u all suggest? Should i keep my escort or sell it? Am just scared that after repair, if anything again happens in the future, i may end up in this spares problem again.

What do u say? Is Escort a good car to keep? My dad says that the Escort's Engine is same as that of the Ikon only that ikon is an upgrade with a much better tuned and tweaked engine. He even told me that it has a wonderful acceleration and is bit better than Lancer as he drove lancers for the past 13 years!!! BTW my escort is 1.8 Diesel.

you seem really confused. whats your budget like?
first thing get rid of the escort.
look for a good used lancer/city, whatever you can find as both the cars have their pros and cons. a used 1.6 ikon/baleno are nice options as well considering they will be priced far cheaper than a ohc vtec, same for the lancer.
lastly you need a car with a boot if you're going to install lpg and caryy minute luggage as well, so forget about the swift.
used balenos say from the 00-01 era (apparenly post 2002 were examples of comromised quality as well) have almost bottmed on the prices, so there s not much you can lose on them in 4 years compared to what you would lose on a brand new swift.

Ok since i require the LPG gas kit as a must, the Swift is out forever... it was even the most expensive + not satisfactory resale value after 4 years.

Now apart from my current Escort i got OHC and Lancer in da list. A decent Lancer can come between 3-3.2 lacs .... no idea about OHC. But whatever, if i sell my escort i may get a max of 1 Lac. So that means i gotta shell in extra 2 Lacs only for the car and another extra 1.5 Lac for other stuff. So that makes it 3.5 Lacs fresh!!! Ok thats big! If the car was to be used by my dad, he would have put in even 15 Lacs, but since its me i doubt him.

The reason why am backing the Escort is that if i still with this car, i save loads of cash, a part of which can be put to customisation.

Now only if my Escort is so worse like a piece of crap, i intend to sell. I wont sell it just because its old or dirty looking or just because some other car is way better than it. Now what am scared is about the spare parts and other engine problems.

before the accident, my car had a problem.... it used to stop in middle of the road and the engine used to be hot and smoke. Donno about that problem too.

Only if the Escort is risky and a very very very bad option, then ill sell and go for another car.

1)you cant even compare the ohc and the swift...ohc is in a totally different league
2)2nd hand city 2002-03....for 4-5 lakh
3) get rid of the escort asap
u can even put the filter and free flow in the swift if u want...whats the harm?

Ok got it but does the Swift have space in the boot for the LPG cylinder????

And plz guyz, please mention your reasons why i should get rid of my Escort.
