No i think you can get a good car in your budget i don't know abt madras but in mumbai there are lots of used cars.....
I recently sold my ESTEEM 1996 model very very good condition... running 83000 kms- only FOR JUST RUPEES - 95,000/- And after sale people give me offer for 1.20 or sooo......
Soo i think you are looking for why not try in mumbai and get a fair deal in here...........
1.5 is a huge budget fro used car..... get a new alta by put some more cash in it and why not buy a new car in your budget ...........
Thats my personal view......
Now i booked AVEO other than selecting Fiesta cozzz again i am going to use this car for long term............ Fiesta is ford vehicle and i am scared of ford they give huge maintenance sooo its better to get with company which has reliable cars in the industry...

First thing that came to my mind was a Zen but when I read your post from the requirement of a good backseat/easy access I would have said that a used Palio is the best option as well.

Car under 1.5 lacs
I'm based in Bombay/Pune and am looking to buy a used hatchback as a city car. Average running will be 600 kms per month all in the city. I will be keeping the car for 1 - 2 years.
1. AC is a must
2. Don't need a very fast car
3. Should be reliable
I think the following should be available in my budget:
5 - 6 year old Santro
5 - 6 year old zen
3 - 4 year old Alto
5 - 6 year old Getz
5 - 6 year old Wagon R
I checked on carwale and found a bunch of zen's, alto's, santro's, etc that fit my criteria.
Any suggestions on which car and also potential places to look to find a good deal?

Stick to the Alto or Zen. With the cars being more than 3 years old (considering your budget), keeping the cars in good nick will the top priority, so maintenance and spares cost wise nothing to beat Maruti...

a friend of mine is selling His extremly well maintained Fiat Siena 1.2 Petrol. Don't know the cost, but if I had money and need for second car I would've bought this one.
I already have Palio.

The zen, alto and wagonR being maruti would be easy to maintain and run. Santro would be a good choice too depending on the condition of the car. if FE is not of a concern then the most comfortable car to drive would be the getz. Also if you plan to sell after 2 years and adding 15k to its odo, you need to check the resale value of a 8yr old car.
And considering the second hand car market senario as of today the prices of these old cars are going to go down further as newer cars enter the market.

Santro your best & Safest bet.
Try few Santro & Maruti counterparts.
You will really feel the difference in terms of quality, refinement, built etc.
with santro you need not to worry for ***, rattles (all marutis), AC etc.
Go for santro.

I do not know how you reached the conclusion that all Marutis rattle. Maybe its hearsay, or Hyundai Fanboyism, i don't know. But i request you to please be a little sensible while posting. No personal offence meant.
To the thread starter: I think a 2004 ac+ps Santro/WagonR should be available in that range, would fit in your reqs perfectly.
