esteem_lover you haven't told us your budget yet. Palios come very cheap in the used car market. 1998 Esteem = 2003 Palio. but please take a good mechanic before you decide on any car.
My budget is 2.0 - 2.5lacs. or less ..lol

My choice - Esteem if you plan to have it modded, else the Palio any day... just curious to ask - why Baleno is not in your shortlist?
The mod i have in minds are:
a. K&N air filter
b. free flow exhaust
c. maybe fatter rubber
These are just basic mods, wont have any problem getting them installed.

hellspawn : if the palio 1.6 is in good condition and it hasnt logged too many kilometers, its better that you go for it. esteems build quality isnt that good and a second hand car might develop rattles.go for the palio 1.6
I thought same.. since i dont want to invest few xtra lacs in new car.

RX135 : Let the esteems win the drag races at traffic signals, but they are no match on highways. No comparison once past 80-100 kmph.
drag race is everyones fancy but i dont feel comfortable in esteem over 120, havent ever ridden an palio. after few mod 1.6 can beat esteem at any point.

I ruled out xing, zen and wagonR.

I see palio 1.6winning this race

i doubt if i can find a good palio in secondhand market. it wont be hard finding a good condition esteem.

wht i like abt a palio is the stablity, not only the ability to go faster but also to stop.

Still confused

a second hand baleno wont fit my target.

+ Availability in 2nd hand market

yes true, its easier to find an good condition esteem

+ Modding
it will be same for both cars

+ Spares are cheaper and AVAILABLE
true

+ Maruti A$$ and service network
maybe, bigger network but have to get car services at all local service station to know abt their quality

+ Mileage
i harldy cares.. i will only be doing abt 20kms a day

+ Should definitely be hasslefree
depends whts "hasslefree"

- Rigidity, Ruggedness, Sturdiness, Built to Last feel, inspiring confidence while you drive
Palio is better in these aspects

- Safety
lol.. palio is safer anyday

- Looker[/quote]
i dont mind buying an fiat padmini with ferrari engine

but iam still confused.. esteem has its own advantages over palio and viceversa

getting more confused

Well, for that budget, I am sure you can get even S10. One of my acquaintance has been trying to sell his S10 for 2.5-2.7L for last 2 years. But, the problem with the Palios is that, not too many owners are willing to part with their cars.

Please, oh please, dont mod an Esteem.

I almost puke seeing modded esteem.

Get a Palio. 1.2/1.6 doesnt matter. Youll enjoy it much more than an Esteem.

I prefer driving my Stock 1.2 Palio Sport, to one of my friends City 2003, model. Its just an amazing car to drive.

Come on Aditya, he is talking about performance mods- not one of those bench sized spoilers at the back- up above the world so high.
