Guys,

need some help here... i am terribly confused with this.. and I have to buy a car soon... :Frustrati

I would be running an average of 30-35 kms a day with a long drive of 600+ kms twice a month...

I am in Chennai... I need to decide whether I shud go for the Swift Vxi or an Indica V2 Turbo DLG. After discounts the cost price comes out to be almost the same.

please: give me some advice on which car to for... ? with respect to running costs in terms of fuel cost and maintenance...

I somehow like the heavy feel of the indica... but my wife likes the built quality of the Swift... help!!

Thanks
Saurabh

You are running around 30kms/day + 600*2 = 2000-2400kms/month.
Indica will save you around 3000rs/month with that kind of running.
If thats enough for you to overlook the quality difference between swift and indica, go for the indica.
If refinement and quality is more important than 3000rs/month, go for the swift. Its your call.
On the maintenance front, there is not much difference as far as the costs are concerned, but if you factor those in, you will be spending about 300-400/month extra maximum if you run into problems after the 4 year warranty period is over.

Swift Vxi. The refinement and utility is worth the money

hey saurabh,

the swift and indica are two DIFFERENT vehicles altogether..

The swift petrol and diesel are pure rev heads..you could enjoy driving them..but the passenger comfort leaves much to be desired..ingress and exit are not too comfortable too and the standard maruti rattle is sure to come within 30K kms..

The Indica turbo on the other hand is a nice passenger car with loads of interior space, can take a little rough road too without much problem..The engine is not as great as the Swift but TATAs have their reliability and service to speak for..

What about the resale value if i think of selling at after 4 years?

Swift's build quality is much better... Also, I test drove the new Indica Turbo DLG and found that even though there is a turbo lag... but the torque is good... i cud pull from around 20kmph in 3rd gear!!...

will Swift be a good highway car??

I agree with TSK its upto you to choose between saving 3k or quality ride. If you can extend your budget opt for Swift D - you will have both.

for that kind of running, i think its better you opt Indica turbo than Swift VXi. Defenitly Swift is better to drive anywhere than indica, but tata will provide more space and you can save a lot on your fuel bills, that will make u happy.

I would suggest Indica for your usage. However, typically petrols run smoother and hence you may find swift petrol easier to drive in the city. However, having moved from Santro to Indica turbo diesel, i am completely used to this now. The turbo is really helpful and a little addictive at times :)

Saurabh, At that usage, I would suggest you to go for Indica Turbo, you will not regret...but if u can stretch a bit go for Swift LDi...both u and ur wife will be happier....

Abhi

Thanks for all the inputs guys...

I would mostly be buying the Indica V2 Turbo... although I am also looking at a 2004 Wagon R Vxi for 2.7lacs, if that deal comes through... would be driving the wagon r and then start saving for my future skoda... :)

I have a 2006 indica turbo. Its a real value for money car. It will save you a min of Rs2500 per month on the travelling distance mentioned by you. Driving wise you cannot compare a petrol to a diesel but honestly have taken the car out on the highways a couple of times and at 120 you cruise along really a nice strong car.
