Default Wagon R VXi or Swift ZXi ?

This might look like a stupid question having an obvious answer to some ppl but one of my colleagues is seriously in this dilemma.

He likes the new Wagon R looks as well as Swift's. Wagon R Vxi has more features than Swift VXi (so Swift Vxi is ruled out). He can stretch the budget for Swift Zxi but he wants to know whether this more-than-1 lakh difference between Wagon Vxi and Swift ZXi is justified ?

90% will be city driving with just occasional highway use.

Also which one of the two would have a better resale value ?

EDIT : He is planning to keep the car for atleast 5-6 years.

If your friend has the money to spend ask him to go in for the Swift ZXi, no questions asked. Bargain well, and he should get some good discounts.
Between, there are many other threads which bear the same topic. Scout around those too for more answers.

If he likes both and usage is mostly in city then WagonR. Resale : Swift will lose more money than WagonR. If space is not on priority list go for WR

Swift VXI is better than ZXI for resale value, WagonR has better resale value than Swift because WagonR is like small car/better FE etc..

For City usage wagonR is better than Swift, for highway use Swift is better than WagonR.

The Swift is anytime a better vehicle than the WagonR. In terms of stability, safety and ride comfort. Also since you mentioned that your friend would want a higher resale value for the car after 5 years, I feel the Swift will have a better resale. WagonR has been in the market too long, and now with the new Zen Estilo in the market who knows when Maruti might decide to shelve the WagonR. But then come to think of it, Maruti has been dragging along the 800 for eternity.
