Default New Car - Esteem VXI or Santro XO ??

The question is bit weird I guess. But here is the background:
Initially I really wanted to buy a sedan at around 5L After all my research, I narrowed down to Esteem primarily because of following reasons:
1. Big car.
2. Drivers car.
3. FE
4. value for money
5. Better performance in terms of pickup in its class.
I also gathered the minus points:
1. Out Dated looks. But still looks better to me than indigo.
2. Rear seats not so comfortable.

But then the question came if MARUTI IS GOING TO DISCONTINUE ESTEEM ?
If that is the case, then i don't think it will be wise choice to spend my 5L on it.

And frankly speaking there is no other entry level sedan left which will give all the plus points of esteem. So i moved to small cars.
Here the choice was simple between Santro , Zen estilo and wagon R.
I do not like looks of both Wagon R and Zen estilo. The old zen was far better.

so everything depends on whether Maruti is really going to discontinue esteem in near future. That is a million dollar ( in fact 5L INR) question for me.

Please let me know whats the situation and advice on the car i should go for ?

TIA.

Any particular reasons why you are not considering other cars < 5 L ?

Well, i have the same question as Eddy. Why not consider the other cars under 5 L.
You have Swift, Getz, U-VA, Spark, Palios and even Loga Petrol! Why limit yourself to Santro and Esteem?
As for your question, there is no definite information as to whether Esteem will be discontinued or not. I would say if you like it, go for it. No one can predict future, but its best to listen to your heart.

I considered following cars below 5l:
1. wagon R - rejected for looks. Rest other things are comparable to santro.
2. Zen estilo - Didn't even think of it. I liked old zen. Don't know why maruti has done this to Zen. Looks cramped from both outside and inside
3. Swift - Didn't explore much. Its a good car, but prices are close to a sedan.
I am in mindset where I ll go either for a big car around 5 L or I will not spend that much money and will go for a good small car.
4. Santro. Considering all this, santro has everything to offer that i need along with attractive scheme going on.

So the question remains, if maruti is phasing out esteem, and if yes then will it be a good decision to go with it still ?

If you have narrowed it down to SANTRO, then yes you have a good car. Do take a long hard look at the SPARK as well. It has everything that SANTRO offers you, looks better and is a newly launched vehicle as well.

@Naughtyfaction

I was in the same situation around 18 months back, as I was considering these two cars, I finally went for the Santro XL, saved close to 1.5 Lacs

I am quite happy with the decision as I get a decent mileage and the bottom end torque on the Santro is quite good so it seems quite fast in the city.

If you are worried about availability of spares, that should not be a concern. If you are worried about resale, the esteem still commands an excellent resale value which might drop a little, not much.

I agree with esteem_lover here. If it is an entry level sedan, it HAS to be an esteem.

Amongst the hatches, Swift > Spark > Santro for me.

But overall, go for the esteem. No other car is as VFM as the esteem. And regarding resale, dont worry. Taxi guys will pick it up at a decent price.

About Esteem its tried and tested good entry level sedan from Maruti. Even I suggest If you look for reliable tried and tested sedan it has to be Esteem. Since we heard esteem replacement coming soon may be search for used esteem you can find one good car for sure.

When you shop for new car I suggest you buy new models like Logan, Indigo they are good sedans. You will be happy with interior space, very nice ride comfort.

Among small cars Pailo, Getz, UVA, Spark are good options.

Among small cars If you want to buy tried and tested ones it has to be between Santro and WagonR, I suggest WagonR for its practicality.

Regards,

Ravi.

big car? cant you stretch a bit more and then get confused?

Getz is a big car and better car than santro swift wagonR etc at that price range.

UVA looks great but tad costly for that engine they have. Still I love the looks of it but cant comment on any of its other quality I havent driven one.

Esteem, well. Its a damn old car. End.

If you cant stretch then also look at Santro Limited Ed. ( but then Base Getz with1.3 would be just20-30k that the top model of Santro)

Why not the Indigo? Check the price VS-BS IIIRs. 4,66,032/- at Hyd!!!

What about the Swift? Is there any specific reason you are avoiding that?

yeah, no one talk anything wrong abt the esteem

@naughtyfaction : so what if its going to be discontinued. Atleast there is nothing concrete at the moment. Even if they do, you will get spares for the Esteem as long as the sun rises in the east . Dont even bother. vbmenu_register("postmenu_515490", true);

But then Santro isn't a sedan either!!

Or is it like, if its a hatch, it will be the Santro segment car (price wise)
