Swift D or Fabia in Feb 08? - Team-BHP

Hi All,

I am planning for a new car for during Feb 08 and I have decided on Swift Diesel.. One of my friend told Fabia should be out by Jan 08..

1) Is Fabia expected?
2) What is the waiting period for Swift Diesel in Bangalore?
3) Which Maruti Suzuki dealer in Bangalore to prefer?

Please provide any relevant information that can help mev

heard that swift diesel's delivery waiting time is huge ... one of my friend is still is waiting for the past two months....one can expect at least three month waiting in coimbatore but this is subject to change as i know one of my sir got his vehicle after 6 month and my other friend's relative got it in two months this could be the same in bangalore i guess.
Fabia is getting launched in autoexpo ... the latest news i heard ...in auto show the mentioned that they are planning to price is around 5.5 to 6lac

I guess if you book a Swift Diesel now, it will be available more or less during the time when Fabia will be launched. Fabia has got good reviews in the European media. In my opinion, it is worth waiting. For all you know, Maruti will speed up Swift deliveries soon after Fabia is launched

Other cars in the pipeline in the C segment Diesel in 2008 -

1. Grande Punto
2. SX4 Diesel
3. Getz

Have a look at all these choices and then make your decision. Fabia will be at least 8 L (Again this is my guesstimate and not a figure from confirmed sources).

Book a Swift and before delivery if anything comes better than Swift then cancel the booking and buy the better option my 2 cents.
I think UVA with same engine as Swift, Grand Punto or Fabia will be sure better then Swift.

Hyundai is royally messing up their opportunities. They had a clear advantage years back when they launched Getz. They let it squander away by not launching the diesel version in time. They could have recouped that in 1 stroke if they had launched the diesel when Swift Petrol was launched. It could have possibly taken some steam out of Maruti. They let it slip again. Now Diesel Swift is a runaway winner and there are others coming its way. If my logic and Market sense is right, Getz will be dead in another year in the face of new and MORE CONTEMPORARY competition. With new brands like Skoda and new models from almost everyone from TATA to FIAT , Getz is going to lose whatever small steady fan following it has.

i would say wait for all the new cars that are on the way
fiat punto is possibly the same engine as swift diesel and the build quality is going to be way better

patience you will soon have a lot of good cars to choose from

What Skoda dealer (Cbe) has to say was to expect Fabia in Nov/Dev 07 and expected price is below 6L and mileage figures of around 20-25 KMPL..

when is the autoexpo in Delhi (hope I dont sound stupid)? same as Nov/Dec?

About the other options:

Fiat Grande Punto - Really good car. Will look for more information.
Getz - Nope.. They are messing up..I am wondering how long Santro LPG will be tested by them and will it ever be launched.
SX4 - Diesel - mouth watering option..
Chevy Aveo Diesel - Not a fan of GM..their days are over.
Fusion D - Ford maintanence woes. Anybody here to recommend?

Hi all,

I had booked Swift VDI in September first week. THe dealer had initially promised my delivery on 9th Oct, then Dussera and now he is not sure whether committing a date by Diwali is a safe bet!

My query is, should I wait for Skoda Fabia, which will be launched in Auto Expo, starting on 8th Jan 2008?

FYI, I have driven Indica diesel for last 5 1/2 years and am a fan of diesel cars. I won't mind shelling out another 25k odd for Fabia, but I am wary of the high runnings costs (in terms of spares and regular servicing) for Fabia. Is this skepticism justified?

Please advice.

Also any idea when Fiat's Grand Punto is likely to be launched?

Read the above link also. You can wait for Fabia or Go for Getz CRDI if space is concern otherwise Swift VDI is the best option.
