Thanks, but with a facelift around the corner, I wouldn't want to have a dated model within months of my purchase. Have narrowed my options down to the new punto and the new polo. Waiting to test drive them before I make a decision.

Hello all.
I am on lookout for a hatch to replace my wive s i10 (2008) which we had purchased 2 years earlier for Rs 2,10000. It has run 35000 kms till date and is in a good condition. I have the following questions.

1) What can i expect for the i 10?

2) More importantly, which car to buy?
- We had zeroed in on grand i 10 (petrol) top model as my wive s daily drive is just around 25-30 kms. It is around Rs 5,50000 ex showroom.

- But we now have a second contender: Beat diesel top model. This is not because of the higher daily drive but only because we are getting a diesel at a cheaper price than a petrol hatch (after all the discounts on beat).

Now the question is whether we should go for beat diesel and skip some of the features of grand i10 or stick with grand i10?
Our requirements are the essential safety features and it will be used mainly as a city drive.

I'd vote for top-end beat diesel.

Reason to support my opinion, diesel is forgiving engine as it is City driving so more torque will aid drive ability.

You can take the car for occasional highway trips though it is a city-bred car but it won't hurt your pocket and if in future your daily travel increases the diesel engine will compensate for the same.

I want to decide between ford ecosport and Ford fiesta for my son. He is 19 has 1 year of driving experience (wagon R) Wants a car for daily driver in delhi and weekend trip to meerut (65km). Wants to keep the car for 5 years budget 10 lakhs on road. Other suggestions also invited. He is 6'3" so a car suitable for his height will be preferred.

Top-end Ford EcoSport if you can lay your hands on one. Endless waiting and increasing prices is a minus point.

My preference is the EcoSport.

Buy the i10 Grand simply because it is bigger, more comfy, newer etc. Diesels are nice in theory, however, unless you are pitching them against a wimpy high revving 1.2vtecs or 1.2K series motors with zero torque/power in lower rpms, petrols are just easier to drive with no turbo lag, generally lighter clutch etc.

Petrol or Diesel?
If he likes to drive and is in any way passionate about cars, go for the Fiesta. Linea T-Jet is another good option, so is the Vento tsi+DSG and so is the upcoming Ciaz.

I booked an ecosport tdci titanium on 22nd July 2013 at riddhi ford delhi. Haven't been pushing the dealer much and so haven't got the car yet. A few mails to the senior management should do the trick. I have a fortuner for highway trips so the car would be doing intra city and weekend 150km drives. Diesel petrol doesn't matter much but considering the slow selling and low resale nature of ford petrols I will stay away.
If it was Honda city then definitely petrol but he finds the headroom woefully short in the new Honda city. Ecosport was our first choice but fiesta and the t jet is making us reconsider. Is jazz worth waiting?

Jazz news is a bit difficult to comment as to when it'll hit our shores.

Seeing your requirement, I still feel the EcoSport 1.5L TDCi will do be sufficient. Looks funky, has decent space for your son's personality, has the needed gadgets and a Diesel too.

Wanted to suggest you the Swift ZDi but seeing your son's height, it'll be a bit squeeze.

Regarding the new swift any idea when is it expected. My son is waiting for the car since last 1 year (driving the wagon r) and would only like to wait till August max. He can go in for the new swift but the old one is too common in his college so might not like it.

I had a bad experience with my ford escort (1997-present) and vowed never to buy a ford in my life. That's y am skeptical and have already not bought the ecosport. I wanted to get him Honda jazz with Japanese reliability but seeing mobilo not launched till now it seems jazz will only be coming next year. I wanted to be sure if the dealers have improved and spares have become cheaper. I had to go to a new ford dealer every 2nd year in delhi. Expect harpreet ford all dealers were closed and new ones reopened at different times. Never had a satisfying experience at any of them.

I guess the new Swift will be out by October/November.

Maruti is currently concentrating hard on the Ciaz and S-Cross.

The Swift is selling anyway, why waste time in launching the refreshed version now.

Thanks anurag. I guess I would have to go the ford way. I was considering if fiesta ambiente (airbag+abs) + mega audio/caska HU with GPS can provide most of the things one gets in a titanium and save 1.5 lakh rupees. Any thoughts? With Eco sport it has to be the titanium because of safety features.

Did read your post and question in the Fiesta thread. Can't answer on the Fiesta as I haven't followed it from start.

I liked the EcoSport overall with minimal commissions/niggles from other users. Only grouse is waiting periods and unwarranted price hikes with no customer protection.

Either choose the EcoSport or get the refreshed Linea T-Jet - rockstar that car is!

Go with the Fiesta. He will appreciate the rewarding driving experience on offer, and could result in developing a good taste on cars. The mid-variant Trend (identical with Titanium on safety features) should be good for him

IMHO both Ecosport and Fiesta (New & Classic) have less head room in the front as well as rear after having driven the Fiesta earlier and test driven the Ecosport. It will be uncomfortable for a 6'+ person. I think you should be sticking to the tall boy cars only. Mahindra Quanto has sufficient head room when I sat in one of them. Dont know if this goes against the shortlisted cars.

I agree on the tall boy point but Quanto is just not the car for a 19 year old college going guy. Not so FTD car that is which itself fails in need for a college kid.

No offence to you sir and the owners if Quanto.
