r u still tryin to make a decision well if its about the wait then go for the baleno if not theres no way ure not gonna be able to make a swift fly with the 1.6's power to weight ratio also considering the swifts sporty looks compared to the outdated baleno shape id say wait 'kyunki sabar ka phal meetha hota hai" but dont wait too long or ull be stranded without a car dawg!

Thanks to everybody for all the quick responses. It looks like the Baleno
(with better wheels, -- what's the recommended size, and could I get it at
the dealer level ?) is the runaway winner !

iceman91: No, I don't have a strong preference between a sedan and a
hatch, -- if anything, a hatch looks likely to be more useful wrt carrying
stuff etc. ! However, it'll not influence my choice of a better car (Baleno).

revtech : I'm not too confident about going for a used car on my own. So I
haven't considered a City etc., and was thinking about True Value just for
the peace of mind. However, if they're there just to rip us off, then ...

lamborghini: I stand by my comments about my discomfort in the lack of head
room in the Petra/Palio. I found the head room to be barely acceptable only in
the driver's seat (I'm just below 6'). In the rear sit of the new Petra, my head
touches the roof if I sit upright -- I've no other choice if the front seats are
pushed back (very little knee room). Thus the rear seats in a Petra must be set
aside for the ladies in my family! On the Palio front passenger seat or the rear
side seats I'm always acutely aware of the presence of the hand-grips too close
to my head for comfort. Even apart from that the head room is not great. I'd
never buy a car that makes me feel uncomfortable in this manner however
good it may be otherwise. And to think that even the Maruti 800 manages to
provide sufficient head room! I can't comment on the old Sienna. If that did have
more head room in the rear than the Petra, could it have something to do with
the increased ground clearance in the Petra ? Anyway, perhaps I should initiate
a separate topic inviting a discussion in this regard. Thanks again to all.

I second what meerkat said abt the head touching the roof. On one journey in the Palio, there were 3 of us in the back. the guy was sitting in the middle was fine but me and this other guy who were sitting on sides constantly got our heads to hit the roof. And we were barely 5"10.

hey meerkat..well i think the right size for the baleni is :
15" inch 205/50 tyres witt 6.5j rims
15" inch 195/55 tyres wit 6.5 j rims
14" inch 205/60 tyres with 6j rims
i have 205/50/15 on my car and it handles like a dream..have gone on the highway a couple of times too and the ride is pretty ok..not that bad...it takes corners much better and the brakin too has improved due to the wider footprint..

the baleno &the swift and getz fall in different segments.
it really depends on wat type of a car u want.
the swift/getz will be easy to drive n park in the city, but carrying baggage will be a problem when going with 4 people on board.
the FE of the Swift will be definitely more due to its lesser wt.
if its mainly ciy driving then i wud rather wait for the swift 1.6.
in the present situation ,its the Baleno for me.
still i feel waiting for the Swift wud be good option.

Hi All,

A friend of mine works in MUL, & as per Him Swift will be launched some time in April & it will be in the % lac bracket. Also he says in will be very 'Unlike Maruti' in interiors & also will host some features like Auto A/C which r currently in higher segment cars. Also it'll be only in 1.3 ltr engine, & he says it'll smoke the competition

I would prefer a pre-owned Honda City.
