About the brakes, yeah they sure rock... when i first went for a test drive of Alto.... i was completely surprised by the power of the brakes of Alto.. it is just like a kind of ON and OFF switch...

I think speedsatya is talking about the M800 limited edition (if u may call it) which came with 5 gears.... i think Maruti stopped its production after the introduction of Alto.

I would suggest you to go in for Alto, its a better car than 800 any day.

the only reason the 800 beat the alto was because both came wityh similar engines that time...
i think thew 800 may just be a wee bit faster and FE but the alto is safer , bigger , better handling , better looking , newer ....
besides ...
they are going to stop making the 800 after april and it will only be sold in rural markets as i think it is e2 compliant at max ...

alto is no way as FE as 800. I sincerely hope they dont stop the production of 800. I own one so I love it

hey techy,
the MPFI M800 was launched with a 5 speed gearbox and 4 valves /cyl which was the same as the alto LX.
the brakes on the alto are better they have ventilated 330 mm discs whereas the m800 has solid discs.

ya but then maruti iscontinued it...
also maruti may have to sell it only in rural markets as its not going to omply with the e3 norms ...
thats what i think ...
is the 37bhp engine e3 compliant..

m800 body spares are cheaper and easily availaible in any part of india..eg the bumper...thebonnet lock.... engine oil lid etc etc...even in the villages....Alto is mean for the cities......but otherwise..people overall...still prefer the m800....

mi first car was an 800 too ...it was crazy ..u can do nething bout it n not worry bout nething while cutting lanes and nipping thru traffic ... it was stolen ..neways dad replaced it wid a corsa ...but we bought an alto fr mom a las summers ...its way better dan the 800 man ..in terms of A/c ,styling and the 5 speed gets a gud drive outta it ...average is jus a 1 n half km or so down no big deal.. . i dunno bout ohers but i think alto looks way better dan a 800 and a wagon R ...
