My choices for 3.50L would be:

1) Wagon R.
2) Santro.
3) Indica.
4) Alto.
5) Spark.
6) Palio 1.1.

TD all the above and then decide.

3.5 Lacs would mean that you can consider WagonR, Santro (just stretchin a lil bit) and the Chevy Spark.

WagonR has the max legroom for tall people but is a tight squeeze for 3 adults in the rear seat. Spark is a good car but has not done well. I would have picked up the WagonR is I were you

If i were you. I'd be looking at the Indica Xeta at that price range and a requirement of seating 5. Its got enough space. Good Rear seat ride comfort. Decent Mileage figures. And handles well on highways. But you would have to be ready for some initial hickups with tata quality. At that price range. I do feel you chould give it a try.

You have a lot of options in this price band: Santro, Wagon R, Zen Estilo, Fiat Palio, Indica Xeta and Chevy Spark... a lot has been discussed on this forum, test drive all these options and decide for yourself what suits best.

If I was in your shoes, my choice would be either a Spark or a Santro.

WagonR or Indica Xeta are my choices.

Santro: A better car than WagonR(driveability), but slightly beyond your budget.

Zen Estilo: Space slightly lesser than WagonR. But personally I feel that looks better than a WagonR.

Alto: Too cramped. Doesn't fit your requirement

Spark: A wonderful cute car, but you could loose on resale.

Palio 1.1: A good car with great build quality, but isn't the 57bhp engine too underpowered for a 1000kg car? Plus maintainance costlier than WagonR(Check out ACI Dec 07 edition.). But since you don't drive above 80kmph, you might want to consider this.

My choice:
Santro: Good city car. Performs quite well on highways. Meets your space requirement. Good after sales support by hyundai.

Wagon R: Good city car. It feels small inside. Good after sales support.

Palio: Very good car. Great for highways aswell. We had a Palio Diesel and it was a gem. After sales support and parts availability are let down. Maintenance Costly.

i would suggest either indica or santro!

indica is the first choice for all the things it offers!

santro comes right after that!, is good car seats 3 at rear much better than the wagonR any day, i would not suggest wagonR as santro has a refined engine and gearbox, and better highway handling!(thats according to my own experience.

if you can really stretch your budget the logan petrol 1.4 fully loaded is coming at 4.5lac ex-showroom as shown in ads you can consider that spacious car at that price!

Try stetching your budget a bit and get yourself a Santro. Believe me you will never regret. I have been driving it since 2006 and still enjoying and look forward to drive this wonderful machine. I own the XO varient and clocked ~ 15 K kms. It performed wonderful on hills and ghat sections as well as in city. It has superb drivability and its peppy eRLX engine will give you good and maintenance free performance.

I have been driving it since 2006 (XO varient) and clocked ~ 15 K Kms and still enjoy it and alwayz look forward to drive it. AirCon is very efficient even in Delhi's summers. It's peppy eRLX engine gives a very smooth, efficient and maintenance free performance. Driving in city roads as well as in highways is very easy and safe. Maneuvering is very easy. In one sentence you can call it "drivers delight".

Since space is one of your primary requirements, I will just recommend the Indica and Palio.
Don't go for others;especially the Alto.

Please don't take it personally rider60, but the guy's budget is upto 3.5 lac and you are recommending him a car which is 4.5lac ex-showroom. I don't see a valid point here.

Default Hi buddy

Welcome to the same situation i was in just a week ago ...i started frm second hand car to finally buying an Xeta ...

First thing i want to ask is do you want power steering ?
Effective AC and ample legroom is must in such a case the best cars is Xeta?
And one more thing how long do you intend to keep the car for?
And also is this your first car?
How long can you wait for buying the car? i.e. when do you plan to take the car
