I can assure you that European safety standards are not stagnant no matter how you look at it.
I believe the word you are searching for is stringent.

People here know much about cars. There are Auto gurus here whom you can depend on. Generally in a forum people have different views and it's up to us to take informed decisions. After all it's your money and you are the one to decide what to do with it.

you say matiz has more safety than the ambassador??
you say the matiz is better to drive than the santro??

Since you are in chennai, I beleive you can maybe recall that a Matiz caught fire on the road near anna nagar about an year back. It might be an isolated incident but shows you that it's not the "Safest" car in the segment.

I am not saying Matiz is a bad car.. But it's certainly not the best in the segment IMO.

Even now there is easy recommendation to be made by people for wagon R, santro , but the vehicle like spark need to be evaluated with open mind. The complete feel and ride quality of spark is in another class as compared to Santro, wagon R and Zen estilo. Normal recommendation on the forum would be for commonly seen vehicles . That is a fact . Generally owners of earst while Matiz and today's spark are a happy lot.I had the test ride of i10 but spark is better in ride quality. Congratulation for buying Matiz - abold but good decision

well i agree with all those people who own/ed a Matiz and vouch for it...
Its definitely a great car, very good ingress and egress, in comparison to the 800 and zen.

anywyas, the search is still on for a good matiz, let me just wait and see

Guys check out the matiz on the classified,

Cool over priced at 1.15 lacs for a car that has turned 3 owners and clocked over 60k kms and no engine firewall(Supposedly engine has been removed)

Classic Automotive sticker itself is a big drawback for any car.

Power steering not working fine,Suspension requires work.

Any guys out there in Bangy with any Matiz or a zen within 1.75 lacs budget.
Not somehow happy with the whole car.

@Pavan,
I think we really cannot help with the price in bangalore.
No one wants to come down the 1L mark in pricing.

Really need to search hard for a good one(and affordable one)

No da,

Car which is falling apart with a price tag to 1.20 is not justified.

The Classic Automotive sticker is such a big put-off.

Should i mention the faults i found on that car, you will be surprised.

Hi Praveen,

Ambassador is a study car, therefore it seems to be safe.
Let’s dissect the safety aspect to factors such as sturdiness, stability, Road handling and collision impact (for the passengers) front & side. A sensible man can judge as following
------------------------------------Ambassador---------Matiz
1. Sturdiness -------------------------Good------------Average
2. Stability (at high speeds)------------Poor-------------Good
3. Road Handling & brakes--------------Poor-------------Good
4. Collision Impact (Front)-------------Average----------Good
5. Collision Impact (Side)---------------Poor-------------Good

In 1999 itself matiz was offering the following
- seat belts
- engine immobiliser
- front head restraints
- headlamp levelling
- seat belt pre-tensioners
- security glass etching
- side impact protection bars
- Front impact protection bars
- Collapsible steering
How many in the above are offered by an Ambassador
Now please advice me, which car is safer. Matiz is safe by its design.

Regarding better drive, it depends, where exactly you drive the car and in what conditions. I am riding both. Santro is a good car in city while the matiz is better to drive in highways.

My evaluation is as follows:
-----------------------------------Santro-------------Matiz
1. City------------------------------Good -----------Average
2. Bad roads-------------------------Poor-------------Good
3. Highways-----------------------Average------------Good
4. With AC (Low Speed)------------Average------------Poor
5. With AC (high Speed)----------- Average----------Average
5. Night Riding -------------------- Average----------Average

But overall, I feel Matiz gives a better drive.

Dear blue pulsar,

"People who don’t know much, advice you more. Just ignore them"

This means anybody who doesn’t know much about Matiz. The words come from my experience. If this statement hurt anybody, I apologize for the same

Hi Dockcap,

Yes we can plan both small and big accidents. But after big accidents both the passenger and car will be in shed!

The statement means - some spare parts of Matiz (especially bonnet, floorings etc) are unavailable in India. So if any fatal accidents occured, its difficult to obtain the same.

i just happened to pop into a Classic Automobiles showroom this morning to check the prices of a 2001 model SD, 40k+...

u wud be surprised to hear the price of it....1.5 lakhs..he said
i was irate just with that quote, and when i asked him he is like "bekadre 1.35 ge madi kodthini" (If you want, I can get it done for 1.35Lakhs)

I think I need to still look around some more.

Dealers quote very highish price, I know I paid more for the Matiz I baught, but it was like it had brand new year, good working conditon battery, speakers, cassette player/FM, remote loack, power windows and SG Model and single owner.

Owner is very tricky to deal with he would not erady to accept any fault I show during Test drive.

So it was like If I need Matiz itself I need to settle for 1.3 lacs. so I baught it.

To fix the issues I noticed it would cost 10,000/- but I will do it only after 3 months only If we will keep the car with us.

What I heard from mechanics, top end Matiz single owner is worth 1.1 lac. Middle/Basic versions worth 90,000/-. Usually we need to add 20,000/- to make the deal if seller is very tough to deal with, most of the sellers will hide everything while selling.

I have sold my many sparingly used cars for throw away prices. Buyers are like they would take everything I give with my car. it was really funny to watch couple of guys even after my car had alloys he is asking for RIMS and wheel caps for no extra cost. One guy asked for even car washing PVS cloth

My driver is why people show such a silly behavior even If they earn 10 times what he earns a month!

So my suggestion is bargain hard and check the car as much as you can also tell them untill car is transferred to your name in RC book deal is not done. Because sometimes if car had some accident or stolen one you won't get RTO clearance hence transfer cant be done.

Regards,

Ravi.

Matiz was the only car at that time (other than Merc S Class) that had passed all the safety tests - front, rear, side - and even the Elk test. I have seen enough Matiz cars involved in what would have been fatal accident - toital head-on collissions, falling down 20 feet embankments , etc, but all their powners have lived to tell their tale. You can check back on newspaper records of fatal car accidents involving teh Matiz and count teh number of casualties - hardly any!
