Hi Shiv, my Alto 1.1 was bought in Jan 2001, the IDV of the vehicle, for this year, is around 1.35 lakhs. So 1.5 lakhs seems like a good buy, although you could try bargaining for a lower price if the car's run quite a number of Kms.

Yes, the F10D engine was offered in the Alto for a couple of years & is no longer offered. But the same engine does duty in the Wagon-R & the Zen-Estilo, so engine spares shouldn't be an issue (in fact, they're downright cheap !). And of course, the Alto's still being churned out in large numbers by Maruti, so I don't think you have anything to worry about - I'm not.

Fuel consumption could be an issue with the F10 engined Altos though, I get around 11 to 13 Km/liter, depending on AC usage. I think the F8 powered cars get much higher numbers.

and BTW, 1.5L was the value i got through truevalue valuation ...the dealer i spoke to quited 1.8 L...

Hi Shiv, the F10D engine is the 4-cylinder 1061 cc engine in the Alto 1.1, Wagon-R & the Zen-Estilo. The F8D is the 3-cylinder 796 cc engine in the current Alto, also in the M800 methinks.

1.8 lakhs for such an old car ! Seems too high to me - what value has the car been insured for ? 1.4 or lower is a reasonable price for an Alto that's around 8 years old.

I got myself an Alto VXi, Azure Blue, Nov 2001 model with 28000 km on the odo with everything genuine about it. Even the tyres were Aug 01. Cost me 1.85 L.

Am right now bringing it back to good shape. Have upgraded the wheels to 13" alloys. Everything else will follow next month.

found an Alto vxi (2004 model) in excellent condition. Dealer quotes 2.65. Negotiated to 2.4L. However, I see that the RC book has mentioned it as a 3 cylinder 1061 cc engine instead of a 4 cyclinder. Should this be an issue?. What is the procedure to correct this?

I bought a Alto Vxi 1.1 2003 model with 46500Km driven on last sunday(in Hyderabad).Everything seems to be geniune. It costed me 2.2L (insurance expries in couple of months) from true value dealer. delater has quoted 2.4L in the starting. It drives smooth and very comfertable to handle.
Shiv, I will check about 3 & 4 cylinder thing on its RC and confirm but I dont think it should be an issue

It's nice to know there's good demand for the VX version of the Alto. I own this car which is about 7.5 years old, 70 k on the odo and still drives like a charm. I've contemplating to replace it with a Swift for a while now but it hasn't happened yet.
