Default Used Alto 1.1 ..As always, its friends at team-bhp I turn to

Hi guys,
Need some advice on buying a used car. I am looking around a hatch for my wife. And I am hell bent on buying an Alto VXi. I know it shares the engine with the wagon R and guess that spares should not be an issue. Since this is a discontinued model and a lot hard to find, I wonder what should be a good price if I get hold of one.

I spoke to a used car dealer in bangalore (Citizen Cars) who quotes a price of 1.8 L for a 2000 VX model, run 43000 Kms. He said it’s negotiable. What could be the right price?

A lot of people are not even aware of the Alto Vx/VXi models. Last month, I walked into Bimal (Indra Nagar). The sales person was adamant that Alto never came with a 1.1 l engine. I left the place immediately.

Please check if its a VX or VXi the VX had a pretty hard steering thanks to the heavy 1.1 engine. If you are fine witha heavy steering then no probelm. The VXi came in late 2002

Alto 1.1. VXi is a good model. Great engine and features. I love to rev this car. It is quite stable on the highways. Go for itif mileage is not the only reason for choosing an Alto.

I wonder where these bangy dealers get their prices from. Are there people to buy at that price ? From my experience, i can tell you that i helped my friend to buy a 2001 Nov I owner (32000km) Alto VX for 1.6 L wayyy back in 2005 Jan.

Might have some impact as when new the price difference was around 30k between VX & VXi. In resale though it shouldnt matter much

well ram...i did check the used car prices and it looks like 1.5 L should be a good deal for the model i talked about....but considering that finding an Alto VX/VXI is hard, i now think shelling out extra should be fine.....

i hope there should not be any issues otherwise though this is a discontinued model....how do you guys think?.....

Aren't there any Alto 1.1 owners here?

I had initially though of getting a used zen or an Alto 1.1. After some thinking and advice I have dropped Zen, because it is a discontinued model, and down the line getting spares (engine and body) will be a problem. (I faced this with my Indica and have no wish to repeat it again). This would not be so in the case of the Alto, as the engine is still being used in Wagon R and Estilo and the body part are still available due to the current Alto.

Plus a few of my friends who had Zens said that it does not age well, with body rattles and maintenence cost goes up for older cars.

In which areas is the Zen 'much better' vehicle than Alto 1.1. Please enlighten.
