Default Swift Lxi or i10 Era

Hi BHPians...

gone throught lot of posts and discussions on swift, i10....
but some how it just didn't fit into my case

Actually I was going to buy Santro GLS, but then when I saw i10..
I definitely had to change my mind as,

1. it's a new car...
2. interiors are quite impressive.

On road price for i10 Era that I am getting is 417000...
with only some 2000 corporate discount.

While when I inquired about Swift Lxi...
the price that they were offering me was about 450000
with about 13000 discounts...
so the on road price would be... 437000

So I just wanted some expert views... about which option to go for...
as I have already inquired the front 2 door power windows and central locking can be fitted in swift at around 13000 expenditure..
so it all comes round to the original price..of 450000

So please suggest me which car should I go for...
amongst these two.. .or you can suggest me any other better options in the same budget...( < 450000 )

my priorities would be value for money... looks.... and fuel economy...
my monthly use is about 500 kms...

Please reply ASAP

From whatever I read in the posts, FE for i10 is better than Swift. Gut feel says i10. I will leave it to the owners/experts to comment more.

I would suggest to go for swift considering driver ergonomics, handling and power, resale. But it is definitely 1-2 kms lesser in FE than i10.

Why not Spark? The top end model?

Swift LX seems to have a bad resale value.

Other than Swift being a bigger car, its a driver's car.

@cedia; was quoted 3.5lac for 6 month old Vxi

Why not i10? It is slightly expensive, but looks contemporary, has great interiors, good FE. Too early to say if it will have a good resale, but Hyundai cars generally have a good resale.
off Topic - I did not know Swift Lxi has a bad resale.

On your priorities:
FE - i10
Looks - subjective (I like the Swift more but you may not)
VFM - Swift (if you like driving pleasure more than interiors), i10 (if you like interiors more)

You might also consider the Wagon R, Zen and Spark in the same price segment. There are quite a few what car threads discussing these cars that you can look through

Default SWIFT has better resale for sure!!

I just sold my three year old swift VXI at Maruti True Value for 3.35 lakh. which is great value.(It cost about 4.7 back in '05). So, as far as resale value is concerned Swift should be a better choice.

A tough choice but I would say the i10. Personally I love the looks (but that is subjective) - the interiors are great, reliability and FE should be good and going by the Santro experience - I shouldn't think resale (when it happens) would be a problem. I am not too sure about the rear seats of Swift but i10 has fairly decent space.

That is great resale value! However, if you were to sell the Swift 3-4 years from now, I am not sure how much you will get as Swift would be an old model by then. You might have got a good amount as there might not be a lot of Swifts for resale now (relatively speaking). i10 is a new model and may have a good resale going forward as Hyundai cars are generally low maintanence.

Simple. If you want mileage: i10 it is.
If you want something fun to drive, Swift it is.

Also Swift is a bigger car.

And regarding resale value after 4-5 years, God know how the second-hand markets would be. Especially after the launch of Nano and other smaller cars.

1 - i10 is a lot of things, but what it isn't is value for money.

In Delhi,
i10 ERA on road is 4 lakh
Spark LS (same specs) is 3.5 lakh + loads of freebies, which would take the total difference to around 60-70k.

IMHO, Era's interiors and superior brand value (resale would be much better) can justify at most a 40-50k premium, so it's still around 20k overpriced

2 - Looks are subjective. So, that's up to you.

3 - i10's fuel economy will be better, but since your usage is less than 20km a day, the difference won't be much.

Theoretically, with the 13k discount, Swift LXi, which is a class above i10, is the clear winner.

But, ultimately, the deciding factor should be the test drive.

@Hawk: i10 is a great car but overpriced for a 1.1 l engine. I would suggest you to stretch your budget and opt for Swift Vxi. Fitting power windows & Central Locking from out side aint a very good option. Vxi costs 20 k more i think.

from your priorities:
1. VFM : Swift( Bigger car , awesome engine )
2. Looks : Both car look good. Swift scores a tad better though
3. F.E : i10 wins here hands down. Im getting a mileage of 10-11 km /l with 100 % a/c in my swift Vxi.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments..

but I would like to get one more input from you people..

what about the maintenance of swift...
is it also as low maintenance as santro/i10(hope)

I am actually a 6ft tall guy with a good build.. so I didn't like the
the feel of zen estillo or wagonR

The FE of the i10 is barely .2 - .5 better than that of the Swift. Remember...that 1.1 liter engine is lugging more weight than it does in the Santro. Thus, I wouldn't buy the i10 over the Swift on the grounds of FE alone.

The i10 is better built, more refined and has better interiors than the Swift. On the other hand, the Swift scores in overall size, driver appeal and power.
