Ikon 1.4 diesel would come after August. No exact news on i10 diesel ( i would nt suggest you to wait for it as it would be overpriced anyways). No proper news from GM too. But expect Uva diesel by year end. Kindly ask your friend to wait and go for the Grande Punto Im sure this is gonna be one heck of a hatch. But main problem is it will be mostly launched next year beginning.

Gemi, ask your friend to wait for the 2nd gen Tata Indica. It may well be worth it.

Is a diesel option available for Aveo/Uva in any international markets?

I doubt that Ikon and Grand Punto will be priced below 5.5 Lac OTR.
So his friend will need to stretch his budget if hes going to wait for them.

@Revved_Up- Yup Ikon might not be priced around that level. But since gem had asked i had given the info. I feel GP will be priced aggressively. Im sure Fiat wont screw it up by pricing above 5.5 OTR for the base version atleast.

Thanks a lot for all the quick replies.

Right now the only two choices are the Palio and the Swift. He is not that inclined to the current indica but i guess the V3 should be worth a look. But October seems to be too far. Moreover we wont be very keen on getting cars from the first few lots due to the notoriously famous TATA "Test Driver" Syndrome.

The GP should be really good but dont think it would hit the roads until next year April. Thats too far apart.

Is October confirmed for the Indica V3?

Word from Prerana motors, Bangalore is Palio MJD has a 4-5 month waiting period. Anyone believe that? 15 days for the Indica Dicor.

Today afternoon around 3 PM the wait for MJD at Prerana was 15 to 20 days.
I enquired for a friend.

Bro even am waiting for New Diesel Hatches launch. So postponed the buying till next year. Its worth it reason being next year as it is so many new launches are happening and you can get good deals on secondhand palio 1.3MJD too.

Anyway someone was telling me diesel engine is supposed to be less fuel efficient than petrol. I have always known other way round though. Is it True?

gemi, has your friend considered the Indigo CS Dicor? It is the best looking car on that platform with a peppy Dicor engine.

I am under the impression that the maruti splash is going to hit the roads soon and it is expected to have the much impressive Swift diesel engine in it. It has already been launched outside India and is expected soon in India.

In addition to the SPLASH you may expect the following-
(i) Santro / i 20 diesel
(ii) Indica V3 - with the famous Fiat / Swift engine (Likely in Dec 2008)
(iii) Grande Punto - with the famous Fiat / Swift engine
(iv) Jazz (I am not sure whether they would come with diesel but it would focus a lot
on fuel economy)
(v) Toyota may launch a hatch with a diesel variant

IMHO one may seriously consider the Splash from the Maruti Stable along with other biggies like GP,V3 and Santro.
