Question Need Suggestions

Hi guys,

Today I went with a friend of mine who is looking for 2nd hand car to see a Zen. Here are the details about the car.

Model: LXi, 2003 April, Golden biege

Mileage done: 45k

Accesories:

-> Pioneer Stereo with 10 cd changer (didn't look much details of the stereo)
-> Central Remote locking with anti theft

Observations:

The body is in preety good condition except for a few scratches.

The engine is very smooth & when that chap came we could see water droplets which i think is a good sigh of engine's condition.

No noise from any part except for a small niggling one from front left door, but it was very less.

Could not drive it on a longer stretch.

Looks very nicely maintained.

The engine bay was clean with OEM stickers & not marks of denting or painting.

Some issues:

The car seems to have had a small accident on left side(the same side as the front door with slight noise) as the fuel cap is not aligned properly, no much but still noticeable. The wheel rims seems to be painted(though even if they are its been done very nicely) because i could see some paint on the air nozzle & the wheel balancing stubs.

Now the real issue:

Price quoted: 2.65L

Is the price fine ?? the mechanic who is showing the car is asking arnd 2k per lac, is this commision rate fine or high.

The owner seems pretty nice as he is open to us showing the car to any mechanic. Also he want to sell it withing march & says that if it doesn't then he'll sell it in september.

Both me & my friend liked the car, but were wondering whetehr the price is rite.

What further check shall we do if he plans to go for this car.

2.65L for a used car when you can get a new one for 3.6L ?
I feel its too high although it comes with the cd changer and all.

I'd say around 2.2 lakhs for a 2003 zen. no more than 2.3 lakhs. Try and go on a longer test drive...might reveal some more problems if any...especially since its covered 45000kms...do a check on the suspension...some components might need replacing. Check for a complete service history...so that you'l know if the car is really taken care of. If some parts are to be replaced...then lower the price a little.

The price is definitely on the higher side considering the place it was sold. Here in Chennai this vehicle can be sold at a price of Rs. 2.4 L - 2.5 L

In Chennai even you will not get a 98 model for this price (1.6L).

2.65L dont even think of giving. Not more then 2 lacs in any circumstances. get the car checked through Maruti they will check everything for you for Rs.1000.

Commision of 2% standard in Mumbai as well..

it's no longer 2k commision in hyd.

for cars above 5 lacs it's 5% and below 5 lacs it's 2%

thats what the major 2nd car dealers ask for from both the sides

Even we can pay 10K as the commission to the brokers. In this case they need to get us a vehicle, which is 10K lesser than the market value.

These guys will some how convince the owner.

Once I got a call from a Car consultant (not brokers) ( in one of the forum, I had explained the role of these consultants) & he told me that there is a Maruti 800, 2004 model (7200 kms completed) for sale. He added that he can get me the vehicle for Rs.1.55 Lakhs & the commission I need to pay to him is Rs.15K. This is a worth deal. ( Do not ask the question why the owner sold it for such a cheap price, that will lead to a longer discussion)

If there is no speciality in the deal, the commission rate in Chennai is 1% of the transaction value.

Guys , U will not find a 2003 ( a two year old Zen LXI not LX) below 2.5 in bombay.
Zen LXI costs 4.10 on road bombay. Even if the car has done 45k , price may go down to 2.35-2.40 and no less and we very well know that Zen has a pretty decent resale value.
