I vote for Baleno. Negotiate for the best deal.

Nothing like a new car. And a new car in that budget of your choice is the Palio 1.6 Stile.

Else a used Baleno, Fusion or a GTX will do

I will take a look at the vehicle, get a complete checkup done by a capable mechanic. If the expenses on basis on assumption comes close to 80-90k, I would give the GTX a go and stick to a new one. The new one on road comes to 4.65 lakhs plus 4 years warranty.. Aint that a sweet deal?
You need not worry if you have a budget of 5 lakhs for purchase and maintenance.

For 1.5 - 1.8 lakhs, you can get a GTX (after a thorough search of course)
Consider atleast 30-50k to bring it to your wanted condition. So, there you go!

IMO, spares will be an issue. They are available but you need to wait. Alternatively, you can buy from ebay for parts with lighter weight.

@ Mr_Bean : I think the new Palio 1.6 should be the best bet for you considering the budget that you have. You get the required warranty on the car as well as the good feel of the new car itself. That will make your drives much more passionate and you will start loving it much more than what you would with the 2nd hand car.

good option. according to me a second hand baleno is a better option than a palio 3rd hand. And the price you say for the palio gtx seems high for a 2nd owner car.based on your budget and needs i wanted to suggest you palio style as well. Anyways baleno is good option if the final price is between 2-2.5l its a good deal, a little more is acceptable based on the car.by the way since its 2005 is it BS-II or BS-III. BS-II has slightly more initial pick up than BS-III.

I have squared in on the BS III, it has got 91 BHP. The pre BS III versions has 94-95 bhp, but I am not sure diff in power would be evident during the initial move.

Any way it is a dream to drive this vehicle in city traffic. The very reason I stuck to Baleno currently was that I did not want to spend more than 4 lakhs on any vehicle. May be after 2 years, I would need a bigger sedan or SUV. In the case a palio would not make sense.

I would plan to close this loan in 2 years, so I pay very less interest on it too.

I think there are heavy discounts on the Palio 1.6 Sports. People are easily getting 30K to 45K discounts + some freebies. Check some other posts on this forum. The car is a very good car and the price makes it even more enticing. I have a 2007 Palio 1.6 Sport and OTR was 4.68 in Mumbai then. I believe you can get one for 4.4 or so in Mumbai, even cheaper in other cities.

My vote also goes for the Baleno. It is a very balanced car with good engine, comfort, handling and reliability.

Default Re: 2002 palio 1.6 GTX (or) 2006 Baleno (or) New palio stile 1.6 sports (or) Ford fus

An update(baleno):
Every moment with this car has been a learning experience. The car had its problems initially but there were equally good things about which made me lover this car.

Off late I am been getting back & knee pain after driving in peak traffic daily for 50 kilometers daily. So this meant i can no longer keep this due to terrible pain I am experiencing.

My quest for a new car has started, heart says the ford fusion(pre-owned) but mind says a brand new a-star zxi.

Will soon put this car for sale on classifieds.

Why not a A-Star Auto? Easier in traffic and no more knee pains?
With 2010 coming to an end, you may get a very good deal.

Yes, you need an Automatic.

Go for a new car, you will have at least three years of trouble free ownership. The choice narrows down to either A Star or i10 auto.
