This is all going to be confusing for the thread starter. I think he clearly likes the Alto.

Why bring other cars into this. The Alto is a no nonsense car with good resale and Maruti service network. You cannot go wrong with this. However the new engine roll out is a gamble that you might have to take.

Techno & all others, thanks for your valuable inputs.

Now I am truly confused :-) Spark seems to be a good contender, just that my mind is not inclining towards it yet. But I will call up the folks at Trident (they now deal with Chev on ORR, Bangalore) and explore a bit.

I am not considering Ritz/i10 'coz this will be a second car and don't want to spend a lot of money. And typically when we choose Ritz/i10, we will prefer a "good" variant which will be priced much higher (when compared to Alto/Spark). No Santro too since owned it before.

I am going to contradict myself here - pls. bear with me.

Though I prefer the low cost Alto (compared to other cars in discussion here), the first thing I might do is change to alloys (Plati) and 13" (XM1+). And probably Roots horn. And a rear spoiler soon after. Basic Pio+USB audio with JBL compos. Am I crazy?

spark's three year free maintenence is really what it says on the cover. absolutely no fine print. everything is covered - labour, consumables, parts - even wear and tear Items. I was pretty surprised!

The sales person in Bangalore confirms that Alto will be launched with K-series engine in couple of months with additional features (no idea what they are) and new colors. So, looks like the current engine cannot be tuned to E1V norms. Xcite is not that exciting after all, with this news.

I am yet to check the Spark although,
1. My wife absolutely hates the looks of it AND
2. Some of the issues reported by our members here is making me nervous.

You should definitely wait for the new Alto. Alto will become a pocket rocket once you get the A-star engine in it. Remember the Alto VXi or the Zen MPFI?

Very True.

PW and the Central Locking itself would actually cost that much.

Moreover, other additional features are available at just Rs. 13.5 K whicj is too delicious.

As for the new K series engine implant, the news is just "news".

If you'll be driving quite a bit in city-traffic with the AC on, I would implore you to stay away from the current Alto. I've been driving an Alto since '04, & believe me, it doesn't "Xcite" ! On the highway though - its, VFM.

Not sure if they would really go for a detuned version.

OT: The A-star is definitely fun to drive in its class. i.e, if you compare it to W-R, i10 irde, Santro, etc. I havent driven the Spark, so wouldnt comment on that.

Sales person sort of confirmed it - remember, they claim no-knowledge whenever we ask of some rumour. In this case, he already had data. That's the difference.

So the K series might make it on the Alto, is it?

He said "K series is making it to the Alto" and that it will be available within 2 months.

That is indeed a great news, so we can expect the return of the pocket rocket. Wonder how much the price increase will be, if priced at the current level its gonna kill the A*.
I still curse myself for having missed out on buying the Vxi when I drive my Lxi with A/C on.

A little birdie insists that the engine (from A-star) will be detuned, but not by much. I don't understand though as to why they would want to waste money producing two different engines?
