Default Planning to Procure a 1985 White Maruti DX

Hi BHPIAN's,

recently i came through a White color Maruthi DX Model 1985, registered in Delhi(first Owner), later it was procured by my friend which he reigstered in Bangalore.

he was planning to sell this White beauty, and i require the Feedback from the Proud owners of DX.

its Loaded with Company fitted AC, Cassete player Driven about 65k,

its engine line is good but minor Hickup's which will be solved in Vehicle service.

the body line is very good but there are some places where the rust has been started.

but the rust is more in the base,my friend is asking a price of 20K.

i guess i can spend that much.

note: the tyres are weired out. so need new set of shoes.

here are some of the pictures.

Hi,

Parts for this car are difficult if not impossible to find.
Think twice before going in for it or better still check whether the parts are available before buying the car.
A friend of mine had a similar car and was quoted Rs. 8000/= for the bonnet when it got damaged.

All the best,

SS

Go for it. Its a good deal. The spares are tough to find. I think Carnation can help you out with this one.

Wow!! 20k for a DX is a real good bargain indeed! I bought a 'Standard' model (the basic model. minus all the knick-knacks the DX came with as you mentioned above) for nearly the same amount hardly 6 months ago!

I suggest you definitely go for it if the papers are in order too.

But one strange thing I notice on this car is the absence of the plastic trim strips on the C-pillars of the roof. Some cars had this neat chrome finish, while otherwise these were black. There doesnt even seem to be any recess in the pillar of this car for them!

Feel free to continue posting on the car in this thread exclusively for the SS80:

Thanks Stanher,
i also had some what Confusion when i saw that strips missing on The C-Pillar,

my friend also has asked the same to the first owner, he informed him that its the very first model and he was the first model, which is like an Dolphin model, so it has not come with the Trims on the C-Pillar. not sure whether that is correct or not.

That little garnish was always there on the cars of this shape. I am sure you can locate replacments if you look in the right places.

Good find SPEEDY RACER. For 20K bucks its a steal that too a DX model.
BTW can anybody tell is it mechanically same as the SB308 series. I think the cosmetics are hard to find spares for this car. If the cosmetics are good and intact should one go for it. Here also there are many SS80's being put up for sale and i was thinking of purchasing one to use for some time till i get another daily runner. BTW i am getting a standard model for 18000-25000 price bracket.

This means that the mechanical parts are also hard to find. Are the consumables like spark plugs, oil/petrol/air filter etc also included.
What do you people suggest between a SS80 and a SB308 as a frequent runner. I can live without an AC.
Hey SPEEDY RACER sorry for hijacking your thread.

Posting from my memory as an ex owner of SS80.
  1. All Engine components (of block & head) can be changed between SS80 and the later carb models.
  2. Distributor cap is different, iirc the whole unit has to be changed if replacing.
  3. Gearbox ratios are said to be different.
  4. Gear shift link bushes are different.
  5. Engine & GB mounts are different.
  6. Water pump, fuel pump are interchangeable.
  7. Drive axles (CV shafts) are interchangeable.
  8. Suspension lower arm is interchangeable.
  9. Stabiliser bar & bush can be replaced with later models, it will stiffen up the front suspension a bit.
  10. Brake Discs and Calipers are interchangeable.
  11. Rear brake is a different type, it does not have the auto brake shoe wear adjuster, but brake slave cylinder fits.
  12. Headlight, side marker light, front indicator etc are interchangeable.
  13. Rear lamp is obviously different.
  14. Rear leaf is different (its spring over axle).
  15. Rear axle is different.
  16. Body panels and trim would not fit.
  17. But few items like door handles can be swapped out with Gypsy's/Omni's.
  18. Glass area is completely different.
In short apart from whats contained in the engine compartment and few other items the parts are not interchangeable with the later 800.

Also all SS80's sold here in India had that C Pillar plastic trim. Previous owner must've lost it and he must've smoothened out the c pillar. That trim is not so easy to find in the market.

Wasif, replacements can indeed always be had, (I have a pair myself! )
What is strange is that the recess in which those were fitted itself is missing on this car's pillar.
