to say the truth corsa sail 1.6 is the best car value wise.

but among the two

swift and getz are as good as each other. Ask you friend to rule out santro.

ask him to take a test drive of both and seat himself and decide which he thinks is a better car.

If those are the criterias, than any day Getz is better as its made for European lower middle class families keeping maximum space and comfort as the main criteria for the car.

Swift on the other hand has been designed keeping a young college going folks in mind. It has much better performance, driveability and style. It looses out on boot space by a huge margin, however can any day beat Getz in style and performance. It also gives marginally better fuel efficiency and comes lower price with more goodies.

Getz was a huge flop before the launch of Swift. People didnt like the idea of spending 5 lakh on a car with no boot. Swift on the other hand has created a sensation amongst buyers not seen before like M800 did. Primary reason for its success was its looks and goodies it was offering at such a competitive price.

However Swift presence in the market has made folks re-look and revisit some of the highlights of Getz which had not been selling well. People compared Swift with Getz and Getz came out on top in quite a few departments. On top huge discounting schemes by Hyundai and launching of a base model close to 4 lakh made it slightly more affordable and sensible proposition than before. Still Getz is a tad overprice as it doesnt offer some of the class leading safety features by Swift although their top models cost nearly the same. Hyundais strategy has been that Indians favor beige interiors and MP3 player over airbags and ABS anyday. Its true as well, as most of the Swift buyers have opted for the Vxi version, but still its a shame on Hyundai's part for exploiting India's mentality.

All in all, its a tough decision between these two. Those who buy Swift dont think much, they just fall in love with the car. Mostly it makes a good second car. On the other hand, Getz is not something that you like instantaneously, however it grows on you with its tiny tid bits that it has to offer.

If your criteria is Space, than its Getz, if you idea is fun and sheer driveability, its Swift. Both have pluses and minuses.

Are you talking about the boot space here? Better finish and better quality interms of?

How many time have you used the rear foldable split seats in your car till date?

To each his own. To be honest the Swift vs Getz battle is the most aggresively fought battle, where each owner is trying to justify their car and choice. However just caz we own one of these two cars, doesnt mean that the other car is bad. So to state that one car is good and other sucks, would be a statement of an ill informed individual. They both have their positives and negatives.

Of course when we talk about space we talk about popular conception. Although I personally feel that the front seat of Swift has much better thigh support and has better shoulder room. But per specifications Getz has a larger wheel base, more leg room for rear passengers and a bigger boat.
The fit and finish too is better if you compare the quality of the plastics used on the side trips. I think the dash board for both cars are good for their class, and Swift has a better looking three spoke steering.

In Europe many times, as space was an issue there. However in India where most heavy luggage shipping can be paid for to be done in a riksha its not as important. Having said that, I still find the boot of the Swift to be too small for its class.

Well there is more overall usable space in Getz, its got a bigger dashboard drawer, rear foldable and reclinable seats, and a bigger boot. On other hand Swift is a drivers car.

.
I would like to differ from Aseem saying that in INdia the cheap rikshaw option is there. Its a feature which will come in handy anytime when you have a small boot at your disposal. Moreover, Its not a big cost issue for the manufacturers to provide a split rear seat foldin option.

Maruti guys did commit a small blunder ( now pls dont argue on how can a blunder be small ! ) by not having the rear seat split fold option. They already have it on the wagon-R and it doesnt require technical expertise or the sort to ignore it.

Though GETZ is marginally better in terms of quality, SWIFT doesnt feel cheap. The drivers seat in a SWIFT feels that much more desirable than the GETZ with all the controls laid out just in the right place.

As Sam wants a car which has more VFM, SWIFT is the better value for money car and Safer Car compared to GETZ.

Sam, a simple answer is needed from you to respond to your query ...

How does your friend define 'value' of a car ?

well if your friend is buying a car for the first time and has stared to drive recently then any day GETZ is the best option as it has the best driver's seating position where a beginner can comfortably see the bonnet edges and the C and D pillars of the cars dont obstruct the view to a large extent unlike in swift and santro!

i personally feel for a beginner the first and the fore most thing when sitting in a car should ensure that he can see the edges and the distance around his car clearly!

Any day a Swift. I have a Zxi and I love it. Also the resale value of a Swift will be much better than a Getz.
