Default VW Deccan Hyderabad: RTO registration is customer's responsibility

After agreeing on final price and paying the booking amount, the sales guy says RTO registration is customer's responsibility. Forget the money part, but just not taking responsibility for registration is shocking. Is it true? Don't people get a ready-to-go car with license plate etc at the time delivery?

This is outrageous! never heard of this earlier. Ask them to give the same in writing, & then contact VW. an Invoice could clarify.

The dealer says this is how it is in all over Hyd as the AP government has a new rule, blah blah. Hard to believe. Can anyone from Hyd confirm?

Bought a car in 2010 and the Chevy dealer was willing to get it registered at an extra cost (although I got it done myself).

RTO registration by default is not sales people responsibility. It is just additional service provided by the dealer either free of charge or otherwise.

You can reduce the costs by opting to do yourself.

Most of the car or bike dealers have an agent there who will do it at an extra charge. Maruti guys have that charge specified in the price list itself along with the charges for number plate too. But you can't do anything if they don't provide the service. Basically its not their job. The Royal Enfield showroom too didn't have any agent to get registration done even though I was willing to pay.

This is exactly how it was when I bought my Chevy.

The dealer did facilitate everything including putting me in touch with a very good agent. But the dealer was under no obligation to do so.

Thats the best way to go about. You may end up saving around 6-7K which otherwise the dealer used to pocket. If you try to do on you own, you may end up getting frustrated at the lethargy of the RTO officials who are generally used to get their cut from the agents.

But its surprising to know the VW dealer washing their hands off the vehicle registration. I have been told the additional charges from registration & insurance are generally used for the dealership upkeep.

The dealer has agreed to facilitate the RTO work with an agent at extra charge, which is fine by me. Here in Bangalore, we are used to taking the delivery of a car with license/number plate fixed and all ready to go. If there is any damage during visits to the RTO office, etc. it is all dealers responsibility.

I think the rule in bangalore is different, its mandatory to register the vehicle before delivery. Recently my neighbor in bangalore wanted to take the delivery with a temp registration and do the registration himself but the dealer informed that registration is mandatory before delivery. In hyderabad, we can run the vehicle with temp registration till one month.

Same rule applies in Kerala too. So in way you have got one month time if you do need a fancy number.

In TN, the dealer should either apply for Temp registration or permanent registration on behalf of the owner.

Once Temp registration is done, the owner can get the permanent registration done at his end.

The first point of contact between the RTO and the owner is via the dealer only.

Looks like it is the same case in Delhi too!
