Default Fortuner Delivery woes!

I had booked a fortuner in January at grace toyota in gurgaon, the edd on the order form was june.

Now june is almost over grace toyota refuses to return my call and provides no concrete reason except that the car is in short supply. I had complained over the phone in June and now have written two emails to Toyota India but havent recieved a response except the acknowledgement tha we've recieved your mail and will update you as soon as possible. My Toyota expience has been nothing short of horrible.

How should I proceed now ? file a complaint ? cancel the booking or wait for 2 -3 more months ? i am very confused, will greatly appreciate your advice.

Well Rishab, though I may sound pessimistic, if I were you, I d TD the new Endy, the Captiva and other vehicles and if any of them would fit my requirements, I d cancel the booking. Somehow, the Fortuner is an overhyped vehicle and Toyota is taking most customers for a ride. In fact I had been to a local dealer to have a look at it and saw a delivery happening. When I asked the gentleman about his waiting period his answer was:

"One week, since I know people at Toyota", and I could make out that he was true.

So, in my opinion, if anything else suits your requirements, and I m sure it will, if you go with an open mind, cancel the booking. Else, keep mailing them, talking to them or try to find contacts.

PS: This feels like the Ambassador/Fiat days man

I think we all do agree that possibly upto a max of 5% of the deliveries from Toyota end up going to a guy who pays more or has contacts within the dealership / Toyota. I too if i were to book a Toyota would maybe use such a route. (Only if it did not require a significantly higher payout.)

Yet about 95% of the deliveries are on tack. I suggest you keep following up with Toyota / Visit the Dealership in person to get the vehicle.

I also think that we also do agree that the vehicle is over hyped for the reliability and resale it potentially offers (potentially as it is not proven and is just taken as a Brand attribute) and the features it offers do not match up. So checking out the Endy , Captiva and the soon to come Aria are other options that you can try.

I agree with n.devdath and ACM.

Fortuner is indeed a over hyped.

One of my friend got the delivery of fortuner in 15 days.Needless to say, his father is a senior official in ministry of xxxxxxxxxx.

Tell the dealer that you want the vehicle on priority or you will cancel the booking.

If you have paid them a good amount of money then you are doing no wrong by taking up the matter with the law. They cannot sit on your money like this.

And yes, go TD some other cars. The Fortuner is no big deal.

I have already threatened the dealer to cancel the booking if he doesn't deliver the vehicle on time but he's not bothered and neither is toyota. I've heard somewhere that the maximum waiting period cannot extend beyond 6 months, can anyone confirm this and secondly is it going to do me any good to actually go to court because of the hassles.

As to Td other vehicles, i am inclined to opt for the 320d corporate edition if i can't get the fortuner. Since i have already owned two ford's ( diesel escort and 1.6 ikon ) though the vehicles are good after sales is not up to the mark and my dad is apprehensive about chevrolet. But the missing kit in the 320d ce doesn't justify the price (to my dad). I'd buy it even if it came without a radio :P.

P.S: Really appreciate all the replies.

Atleast here in Blore i have heard confirmed reports that if customer is highly influential one can get delivery on priority or if one is ready to pay a premium of couple of lakhs, vehicle can be delivered sooner.

Surprising that Toyota Helpline is evading your calls. Why dont you call the factory or HO in Blore directly & speak to the concerned people ?

Btw, 320D is exactly what i would pick up if I were in a predicament like you Its got almost equal kit to the Fortuner & a sweet engine, interiors, suspension. Driving experience is also amazing. Beware of huge service costs though.

Just received a callback from Grace, saying vehicle has been alloted hopefully will be able to deliver it soon. I am going to drop by the dealership to get a firm date, finally Toyota has woken up from its deep slumber. Phone calls and emails atleast didn't go in vain.

@nirmaljusdoit yea no doubt 320d ce is a good package for us (enthusiast) but my dad is more keen on equipment and less on sheer driving pleasure (due to all the infamous bmw cases in the newspapers :P ).

If you have options, please exercise them immediately. There is no point in pushing an arrogant dealer and a passive Co that Toyota has become after the Fortuner has been launched. In fact, if your budget is that flexible, you could consider the Montero which is waayyy better than the Fortuner, the Pajero and the Endy. Even a used Montero is not a bad deal.

Rishab- I have had dealer problems too during my Fortuner delivery. The contact form on the Toyota website is very efficient, you will receive a call back in 24 hours. You can then explain you grievance to them and prompt action will be taken.

However, please bare in mind that if your dad is keen on equipment the Fortuner will not please him much more than the 320d corporate as equipment levels on both are same.

+1 sounds like you should get the Superb. Of course, that's IF your problems with Toyota persist.

@sahil : yea i guess my emails to toyota india have finally paid off, and about the equipment in the fortuner, my dad's okay with it since it costs around 20lacs while BMW comes to about 27-28 with bis and BMW secure.

@holysmoke : we already own two skoda's (laura and fabia) so he doesn't want another one, no doubt superb is the best car this side of 30 lacs .
