Default Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

Got two quotes for my 2010 i20 Sportz 1.2

Royal Sundaram - 11.6K/4.01 IDV/Zero Dep
Tata AIG - 11.2/3.96 IDV/Zero Dep

The thing that attracts me towards RS is the fact that one can have multiple claims in a year under zero depreciation whereas most other providers including AIG would entertain only 2 zero depreciation claims.

Any suggestions?

Dear All,
I've recently picked up a Honda City which is registered in the company's name. Ive signed a delivery note+transferred money and taken possession. but they are still to send their signatures on the papers (Form 29-30 etc) for transfer of ownership (which should take a week) . Adding another 15 days to that for actuall transfer being registered with the RTO i had a few questions.
I was planning to go on a road trip but was wary of the fact that although the car still is insured. It is insured in the company's name. ( I have original insurance+rc card etc but it is not in my name). So basically between now and April 19th or whenever it is the actual ownership is transferred and this transfer is recognized by the rto, if something was to happened to the car as a result of which i needed to make a claim. Will there be any issues or will the insurance company make a big noise about it?
Also in case the company decides to act smart and not sign the claim form etc, do i have an option?

My friends say that from personal experience they have never had any issues making a claim as long as they show their original papers, even though the cars were in their uncle's/dads/grandad's name.

But i would rather the insurance gurus over here sign off on their claim before i go for a highway trip!!

Is this confirmed? I would doubt that, why would any Insurer offer multiple claims under zero dep when the industry standard is 2 claims per year. Is this documented anywhere? Request you to confirm.

Before you embark on that road trip ensure couple of things - 1) Ensure the correct papers are submitted to RTO for the transfer of ownership. 2) Ensure that you intimate the existing Insurer about the transfer of ownership by providing a prelimnary letter with the transfer document copies stating that transfer of insurance application would be submitted once the new RC is recd. By doing this in case you have to make any claims during your trip, the Insurance co will honor it.

IMO take that trip after all the transfer (ownership+Insurance) formalities is completed to be on the safest side.

One of their Internet Marketing Agents have sent a mail from their official ID saying 'You will get a unlimited claims in 0dep' (sic). This is what he's claiming from the day he made his pitch to me.

Also does it make sense to increase the IDV from 3.6 (calculated by them) to 3.96? My IDV last year was 4.5L so I am thinking around 4L would be good. It's a sparsely driven 2010 i20 Sportz petrol.

I have a query.
The existing insurance for the car is from RS and it has 25% NCB but BA is offering 50% NCB. Wouldn't it be a issue in case of claims if I go ahead with 50% NCB from BA?

Are you sure it is 50% against NCB and not 25% additional discount offered by Bajaj along with the eligible 25% NCB. The additional discount offered may be to get the business from you. In case of any claims be it 25% or 50% the NCB for the next year renewal would be zero.

Its 08 model and was bought in '10, they asked if there are claims and i said No. Maybe they assumed it has 45% NCB? Since its 2nd owner it only has 25% NCB
I am worried because they might reject claim blaming me for proving false details ?

Edit: I spoke with them again and clarified, they now said it should be 35% and the premium is coming upto 10xxx for BA
RS online quote is about 12xxx

Please folks be careful with the NCB, this may hold against you while you make claims if found incorrect.

Absolutely. Always disclose the correct NCB as company has the right to cancel the policy or recover the amount. As you rightly said, they will create problems at the time of claim.

What might have happened in your case is, BA got hold of some data and they must have contacted you without knowing any history of your car which is the case 95% of the time.

Little confused here
RS has these Add on benefits. But are these available for all the policies?
https://www.royalsundaram.in/DTC/car...-benefits.html

RS online quote
- IDV 7.13L / Premium - 13,663
- IDV 6.41L/ Premium -12,628
- IDV 6.06/ Premium - 12,111

BA online quote - Standard policy
- IDV 7.05/ Premium - 11467
- IDV 6.35/ Premium - 10722

Car is 08 Civic V AT

Any suggestions?
The Windshield Glass Cover without affecting NCB and Full Invoice Price Insurance Cover

Maximum NCB once can claim is 50% with the applicable sunset clause as below.

Quote:
Sunset Clause: If at the renewal falling due any time between 1st July 2002 and 30th June 2003, both days inclusive, (after completion of the full Policy period of 12 months) an Insured becomes entitled to an NCB of 55% or 65% in Terms of the Tariff prevailing prior to 1st July 2002, the entitlement of such higher percentage of NCB will remain protected for all subsequent renewals till a claim arises under the Policy, in which case the NCB will revert to ‘Nil’ at the next renewal.

Hi,
My Santro got damaged while it got transported from Pune to Kolkata. After my transporter submitted a statement admitting that the car was in his custody while the damage occured, my insurance company agreed to start the repair work. The car is a 2005 model, the repair work is done in Hyundai service station and they provided me the bill. Hyundai is supposed to send the signed and stamped bill to my insurance company, receiving which they will calculate and let me know the amount which I will get through claim.

I would like to know if there is anyone in this forum who can help me to calculate what is the amount I will get for the following components listed in the bill through insurance claim.Based on that I have to tell my transporter to pay me the balance so that I can get my car back. In the process, I can also be sure about what I am supposed to get through the claim and what actually I am getting. Thank you in advance for your comments and advice.

Have people on the forum tried reliance general insurance? Wat has been their feedback on claims, process in general? Just figured that their quote is cheaper than Bharti Axa also by a good 1.5k

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. I would suggest to have a look at the Insurance policy document which you have. Normally the rubber parts are depreciated by 50%, fibreglass by 30% and rest by 40% (since you car is >5 ys< 10 yrs old). Labour will be fully reimbursed. You will have to talk to Hyundai to arrive at the figure payable by you. I assume the parts you have mentioned for replacement have been approved by the surveyor.
In addition to the amount you will have to pay which you would be recovering from the transporter, suggest you also recover the NCB cost from them.
