There is no 3rd button just to unlock the boot, you have to press the unlock button on the remote, which unlocks all the doors as well as the boot!

I don't remember seeing a 3rd button on the key itself which will pop the boot open, on my friends ZXi.
No my friend, it does NOT work like the civic. With the remote , you can only unlock the door locks as well as the boot lock.
After unlocking, you have to press the switch present on the underside of the boot handle & the lift up only a little & the door springs open. Also, there is NO keyhole in the boot door & NO lever inside the car to open the boot door.
Again this has its pros & cons as this feature is also contolled by an ECM like module( called BCM or body control module) & its replacement is a costly affair if at all it goes kaput.

As per Sidharth Vinayak Patankar of NDTV C&B, the new Swift has already clocked 25K+ bookings, that too more than a fortnight before the launch. do not know what mayhem is going to happen when the car is launched, when many people rush to book the car just to lay hands at the new model.

But, still 25K bookings is almost equal to 2-2.5 months sales for Swift... or the demand is falling at a steeper rate than expected, due to increasing rates, combined with cyclical decline (IMO).

if so, could anyone post a pic of the remote key. I don't remember seeing a 3rd button on the key itself which will pop the boot open, on my friends ZXi. I have seen this happening on a Civic though. You have a button on the key and when you press that, the boot pops up without any manual intervention! Its SEXY.
The Swift [any previous model] did not have the boot release button on the key. AFAIK even the Civic does not have it in its earlier models, maybe they implemented it in the facelift.
It's there in the Accord though. And its functional and SEXY
I don't think a hatch will ever get that feature as the usefulness wont be the same. In a hatch you will still need that hand to push it up as the electronic release has minimum force which lifts it up just a little. In a sedan you can use your foot to pop open the boot after that freeing up your hands for whatever stuff you need to park in there.

I guess you misunderstood the point. May be you can read it once more. In a hatch, the boot can be unlocked through the remote but still you need to use your hand to lift the hatch door.

Apart from Figo, many other cars have it as well.

Actually in most hatches when u unlock the car the boot unlocks and you have to press the small button (in case of swift) or pull the hatch door handle to open the hatch door.

In case of FIGO when you press the remote boot opening button twice on the car key the hatch opens and you just have to lift the hatch door. NO need to press or pull anything in the hatch door.

Now lets get back to the topic guys. Anymore scoops of the new swift ?

New Swift Booking frenzy!!

Seventeen days prior to its launch, the new Swift from the Maruti Suzuki fold has record bookings, with the company registering 38,000 pre-launch orders for the car.

This is the first time any vehicle has generated such enthusiasm among consumers prior to its official introduction in the market. Mayank Pareek, managing executive officer (marketing & sales), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), said, “The strong response is unprecedented, particularly because the new model has not hit the showrooms yet and the pricing points have not been determined.”
Earlier last December, the Toyota Etios had registered around 12,000 bookings before the company started making the product. But at the time, the car had already been unveiled in the country and pricing details had been revealed.
The new third-generation Swift, scheduled to be launched on August 17, is longer and roomier, with distinctively styled interiors. The car sports a plastic fuel tank which, being lighter will enhance fuel efficiency by an added five to six per cent. The company had 33,000 bookings for the Swift when production of the model was discontinued at the end of June. MSIL will start rolling out the new Swift from tomorrow at its Manesar plant.
In the early 1990s, Srivastava said, MSIL had recorded 187,000 bookings for the Zen within a month of launch. “The production capacity then was not comparable. We used allotment cards to sell cars to buyers. Deliveries were made over three to four years.”
The Swift, a benchmark product in the premium hatchback category, was introduced in the Indian market in 2005. The car created the premium hatchback market, a category which has since seen rapid growth, fuelling the interest of global auto majors in the segment. Ford launched the Figo in the category in March last year and Volkswagen followed with the Polo. Toyota’s made-for-India small car, the Liva, made its global debut here on June 27. There is also the upcoming Honda Brio in the same segment.
The category is one of the fastest growing, clocking growth of 20 per cent (January-June 2011) in an otherwise sluggish industry. As many as 439,000 units were sold in the segment last year.
According to industry estimates, Swift had 24 per cent share of the premium hatchback market between January and May, while the Hyundai i20 and Ford Figo accounted for 15 per cent each. Ritz contributed to 12 per cent of sales.
Currently, MSIL ,with a half a dozen models ranging from the best-selling Alto car to the WagonR, Swift and Estilo, accounts for 57 per cent of the small car market in India. In the premium hatchback segment, the company’s market share in 2010-11 was 48 per cent. MSIL is expecting the share in the segment to go up to 53 per cent once the new Swift is launched.

It looks like its gonna be 1980s again with wait times in 10-15 months (at least for diesel variants). Its bordering on absurdity, why do they even take more bookings than they can swallow without getting brickbats?

The title is very misleading to make the news senstational IMO. Maruti already had 33,000 pending bookings for the old swift, Even if there are any cancellations, I would assume they would happen only after the official launch. It should then only be 5000 pre-launch bookings for the new swift, correct?

Considering the cult status this car has obtained, I would say it is only on expected lines!

No. Not correct really. The bookings are for the New Swift. If not 100%, at least 95%. News by word of mouth travels fast these days and the number of Auto mags even in local vernacular really spreads launches and customers get to know pretty fast. Even in 2005 before the official commencement, there were a very large number of bookings. Even the then MD, of MS, Mr jagdish Khattar had confirmed the effect of word of mouth.

Why would it be 10-15 months? Please remember when Swift & Dzire were produced in the same plant till 2 months back, total production from the line was approximately 22,000 units ! Since now Dzire has moved out of this line, the whole production will only be for the new Swift which means there will be around 22,000 swifts alone produced every month. Now assuming there are 60,000 bookings, it can be cleared in 4 months max !

What Bala mentioned is, the bookings would have been nearly the same even if the old Swift continued to be in production! We need to understand that this is more of a hype. This car is a next gen car of already proven one and also without much changes exterior or mechanical wise. In addition to this, most of these customers are well aware the price ranges of the new car - So less shock on the launch day even if Maruti raises the premium. If Maruti launches a completely new model which never existed [say, RIII MPV] and if they gather a 30K+ booking even before launch / price announcement, they can claim its "world's first" & all. Not with a second gen swift which was already selling so much !

For the real impact, we [Maruti rather] need to do a survey and find out from the customers that "how many of them would still have booked this car if this was the first time Maruti ever launched Swift". People will be skeptical only with a new car or new mechanicals including engine, and not with a tried & tested "successful formula".

Do you think they would have gathered the same number of pre-launch bookings if they had plonked a Peugot engine instead of MJD this time??
