One interesting catch from the CNB review. Tilt adjustable sterring on all variants of the new swift. Including the LDI and LXI.

Thanks MSIL, if this is true, this is awesome news.

This new Swift is surely going to be 30k higher, as one of the bphians rightly said, this swift will not sell 10k every month, it will fall down to 7-8k a month over a period of time, but this Swift is going to become a leader in the segment where the i20 and polo survive for now.

Watched the CNB review today. It looks like a big improvement over the existing Swift especially in ride and handling department. There were some negative comments around the petrol motor but overall looks like a winner and a benchmark in the segment.

The review was biased towards diesel. Even the 4 winners of the C&B contest were more keen on driving diesel variant. And as most of the early reviews suggest, petrol is not as responsive as it was in the earlier swift. This is a let down (if it is really so). These diesel pro reviews will further increase the demand for diesel variant. Good for Petrol buyers, the waiting period for them will be less

Eagerly waiting for unbiased T-bhp review. Only 3 more days to go, am sure it must be cooking by now.

Couple of dealers in Bangalore still have the petrol swift, the 1st GEN swift i mean. They are still getting some customers who are either not ready to wait for the new one or either do not want the new one.

Went and saw the new swift TD car, was not allowed to take photo. No excitement at all. In the rear seat, my knees press against the front seats fully pushed backward (I am 182 cm tall). Left knee movement in the driver seat is limited by the swooping down dash board/ central console. I had a free knee movement in the old swift and sx4. Lacks bluetooth, electrically FOLDABLE ORVM. From inside, changes for a casual observer may look only cosemetic except a new dashboard, stereo (many may replace the OEM one with a different one) and electrically adjustable mirror (not folding). TD possible only after the launch. Looks Maruti does not want to give anything that SX4 does not offer. The rear seat is strictly for two people in comfort due to the high central transmission tunnel. Tried sitting in the middle and found very uncomfortable. the same was the case with SX4. In SX4, in addition to the transmission tunnel, the wheel arches limit the useable seat width. Seeing the side profile and the reduced boot space, I find that the extended length is mostly used in the front overhang to make larger engine bay for bigger engines (for Europe etc., sport version etc.). This is not a car designed for the indian mindset (ironically the greatest market for swift). I do not know when they will start recognising Indians.

I am looking forward to TBHP reviews with update to the spread sheet with leg room/ head room.

15" wheels is an attraction though. Fronts seats are more confortable. The biggest advantage of the car is that it is a MARUTI!!!.

Was a strict Marutian! Had booked swift. Now I am wondering how to take a decision. Continue with the booking? To go for i20 and enjoy reportedly lifeless steering with rattles and poorer leg room? Go down and consder a WagonR (Rs. 40k discount!). Etios with the low cost interiors, without door beading even? or settle for Fiesta classic of Figo? I am waiting for the price and TBHP review.

Thanks for your inputs on the new swift. after reading about your confusion, i could suggest you to take a look at the ritz. Even if you are not interested in it, please go and just have a casual look, sit inside feel it. I'm 182cm tall too, when i adjust the front seat to my comfort and jump on the back seat of the ritz, trust me it has space to put a smile on 3 rear seat passengers. End of the day it all boils down to personal preference.

i'm just unable to justify myself to pay 85k more for the new swift compared to the ritz (Considering the new one will be 35k more than the old one) when each and every nut and bolt under the hood is the same in the ritz, space is much more than the swift, 60:40 rear seat is there on the ritz and once you upgrade to 185 tyres the handling is too good too on the ritz.

Cheers

Stick with the Swift(take a TD though). I found the legroom in i20 better than in the Swift though( i.e the one I owned - 2006 ZXi).I was one of those stupid chaps who got rid of my Swift and went for the i20. I've been repenting ever since. This sums it all up:

The Irony
And to really rub it in, ironically on day of the third service(September 27 2010) I saw my old Swift ZXi. It came down to a friend’s maruti authorized workshop for accident repairs. As it stood there still shining in the sun in all its glory, it was almost as if she was standing there and asking “Is this the car for which you abandoned me? For all the rattles and all the troubles?” Sheesh”

Is it fare to assess the rear seat leg room with the front seats pushed all the way back? I am asking since i believe that all cars of the like of polo, figo, swift etc have way too long adjustment for the front seats for finding the ideal drive position. But the absence of the reach adjust in the steering, and the generous leg room for the front passenger would hardly ever require anyone to push the seats all the way back.

But totally agree with you that there have been some awful omissions like the split folding rear seats and bluetooth. Can live without the electric folding mirrors though, after-all this car should not cannibalize the compact sedan that is in the pipeline, and should not attain premium levels to actually reduce it the record winning sales that it used to see. That would be a negative move.

One wild guess though! Think Maruti will price the new Swift only marginally over the old one. Steering clear of the I20/Polo competition. Launch the new Swift Dzire under 4 m with larger boot and all the new frills plus some more like electrically foldable ORVM and Bluetooth amongst others and price it in the Polo/I20 region or maybe a little more. Sounds logical to me.

Waiting for Maruti's pricing to turn it on my face. And one more thing. Does it not makes sense to wait for the new Swift Dzire? Little bigger than the Swift hatchback with more extra boot space.

Pathankar, in his review on NDTV says that the Swift K 1.2 VVT should have had 6 speed manual G/B as standard.
The episode also had four personnel selected based on the email quiz aires alongwith earlier editions of C&B show as co-reviewers.

I had put forth for guidance on the same matter on an earlier post elsewhere on this same thread, but yet to get a valuable advice.

I have been seeing a lot of people comparing the Swift with premium HBs and its a mistake ! The swift still remains a segment lower. Just because the ZDi price moves into a segment up, we should not be thinking / comparing the swift with i20 / polo. Also when we do this, we are comparing a top variant against the base variants of some other cars.

The starting prices of the swift still is in the same segment as previous. Also for a person looking for i20 or polo, the preferences should be well different than swift's strengths.

IMO most of them who prefer Dzire, is just for the boot space when compared to Swift, performance of diesel engine and for the Maruti label. So, if you are preference is for a Maruti car with good boot space then yes its worth waiting for the new Dzire. But again, the boot space will be less than the current Dzire. So, its based on your priority/requirement.

I have the current Dzire and really happy with the buy despite the odd look which I am used to it now. I could have waited for the new Dzire, but didn't want to miss the extra boot space that I get in the current Dzire. I go on long drives very frequently and hence good boot space was a requirement for me.

If you are open for other entry level sedans then Etios diesel which is going to get launched next month could be good bet. Its more spacious, boot space is better than most of the 10L+ cars. Manza could be another option.

Link to the CNB review below:

All new Maruti Swift: B-segment benchmark?

The new Glistening Grey looks absolutely awesome.

While there is a sense of disappointment with MSIL for:
1) Lack of Bluetooth Integrated Stereo
2) No Start/Stop Button
3) Choice of Alloys (Personal Choice), The ones in the Europe version look amazing

However, over all the car seems to have leaped forward in multiple factors & is sure to be a super hit.
Setting new benchmarks? Not Quite

Having said that, Swift still remains my favorite hatch (owned the 1.3 petrol for 60k+ kms)

From the video, Siddharth proves that he is so sold by the corporate pampering and just praises the car away to glory inspite of the lackings that are clearly highlighted in the video by himself.

For example the rear seat leg space. It looks like its no better than the previous swift and the boot space is still small. So where did the increased 90 mm go?

CNB reveiw says the petrol 1.2 VVT lacks the 6th gear as far as i can remember. It has a 5 speed manual gearbox not a 6 speed.
