+1.
Not just Yeti, I feel that 4x2 crossovers/cuv/soft-roaders are pointless. Why pick those over sedans??

Any idea when dsg yetis will be launched?

The only reason to pick them over sedans is utility, space and sailing over potholed roads in cities like Bangalore.
Also in a city where we have un-even sized humps, many sedans fail to clear them.

Having driven a Fusion, where I get a commanding view of the road and high GC, I would always prefer such a vehicle
compared to a Sedan.

Makes sense, it will help them place it below the vento too.

By the way - I'm getting to know the name of the car for the first time through your post, thanks Noopster. They could have come up with some better name for the car though, personally I dont like this "Lauretta".

Some positive initiatives from Skoda.
Saw this piece of information on the Autocar India website: Skoda 24x7 assistance programme

i thought skoda vehicles are priced better than VW but generally have more gizmos on offer in them?

I would presume it will come with the same 1.6 TDI version, Going by the current feature list of vento, we can safely assume this car will miss some of them to be placed one notch below it.

It was the case earlier, but not anymore. VW is trying to place the skoda products one step lower than the VW's competing in the same segment. It started with the refreshed fabia, continued with the passat and I believe is true with the new jetta too.

Their USP's are different though, and general consensus is that this skoda sedan will lose some features of the vento to be placed one notch below.

Autocar report on two new SUVs from Skoda:

They also mentioned that Skoda is quietly working on a seven seater Yeti. Interesting!

Having driven both Laura and Yeti extensively, i'd pick Laura every time for bad roads, just for the more absorbent and composed ride, GC is not an issue at all here, if this car can cross Rohtak/Jhajjar's speedbreakers it can take deepest of potholes.

I love Yeti's smart AWD system but Yeti without the AWD is a pointless vehicle for me. If you do not intend to step off the road, Laura is a better car in each and every aspect.

Sorry for quoting an old post.

How I wish they bring the Fabia RS to India!

Price it at about 9 lakhs and Skoda have a winner!

2 More SUVs planned. One below Yeti in the same territory as Ecosport and one above.
The higher end version may share the same platform as VW Toureg.

Skoda plans two SUVs - News - Autocar India

EDIT:

Anshuman,

Somehow I have got so much used to high seating, I cant so easily take the Sedan.
I also drove the Ritz, which seems to give a similar feeling.
