Default BBC Two Series - India On Four Wheels

BBC Two is starting a new documentary series, "India on Four Wheels" covering India's car scene, the work-in-progress Buddh Circuit in the mighty yet old, Amby.

It is a two-part series, and a preview can be watched on the URL below. The first part was aired on BBC Two on 19 August at 9.00pm.

Now, ain't it high time TG comes to India?

Fair enough: India’s a pretty big country. You do have to wonder, though. These days there are so many British television crews making travelogues about it, there can’t be more than a few square feet of the place they haven’t covered.
There was Caroline Quentin with her series here last year, and Paul Merton with his one-off programme in 2008, and Sanjeev Bhaskar with his series in 2007, the same year as Michael Wood did his The Story of India… Kate Humble’s The Spice Trail, earlier this year, naturally spent a lot of time here too.
Still, at least this new two-part documentary isn’t just a jaunt around the subcontinent. Well, it is a jaunt around the subcontinent, but it has a purpose that goes beyond admiring the view: it’s a look at India’s burgeoning motor industry.
Anita Rani, whizzing about in an Indian-built four-by-four, meets the businessmen making millions from the surging popularity for cars. Also, Justin Rowlatt, driving an old-fashioned Hindustan Ambassador (known as “the king of Indian roads”), heads East to poorer regions, where cars are out of many people’s price range – here, even running water and electricity are an unheard-of luxury.

Rani and Rowlatt may not quite be household names, but their faces should be familiar: Rani has presented Watchdog and Four Rooms, while Rowlatt has worked for Newsnight, and both have reported for The One Show.
In this video, Rowlatt tests one of India's new highways in Noida, home of the Buddh Formula 1 Race Circuit.
India on Four Wheels is on BBC Two on Friday 19 August at 9.00pm
