2.7 lakhs to 3.75 lakhs for an Eon is perhaps the price one pays for quality. But IMO Hyundai could have done with a 30K less introductory price. Still I feel the Eon will have enough takers. The Eon looks the part, has been well put together, has quality interiors, space is more than Alto, fuel efficiency is on the better side too as per the claims and I'm very sure the 3-pot motor will pack enough punch for an exciting drive. Waiting to see the car in flesh now.

Let's see it from a customer's perspective. When they come to see EON in a showroom what else is in their mind -

Budget for - Eon D-Lite
can buy Alto Lx and save 5K and get AC for free
can buy Santro Std by paying 20K extra and get more powerful engine

Budget for - Eon D-Lite (o)
can buy Alto Lx and save 30K for same equipment

Budget for - Eon Era
can buy Alto Lxi and save 22K for same equipment
can buy Alto K10 Lxi and get more powerful engine

Budget for - Eon Magna
can buy Alto K10 Vxi to save 10 K and get more powerful engine
can buy Santro GL+ by paying 16K extra and get more powerful engine

IMHO in this price sensitive segment, both Alto 800cc and Santro will be largely unaffected by EON. Let's wait for the early next year, when initial enthusiasm tapers off and Hyundai start offering 30K worth of discount!!!

@Damodar: Nice pics especially the Alto comparison. True, the Eon looks great in comparison to the Alto.

Just saw the EON in flesh, a white one and a blue one driving past me on a test drive with some very happy customers sitting inside. As far as initial impressions go the car lloks GOOD and surely doesnt look like being built to cost or cheap. Looks like a cute younger sibling of the i10 in fact and not much smaller either. If they can price this right, it will surely be an ALTO killer atleast in the cities though the alto will probably retain its sub-urban sales!!!!!

EDIT: Just saw the pricing - Pretty dissappointed, opportunity squandered in my opinion!!!!

A price drop on the Alto in imminent. Hyundai has made an error with the pricing for an 800 cc. With a/c on the K10 will deliver more mileage than an 799 cc 3 pot eon. That will come to the notice soon. The ARAI ratings are not very far apart. The fresh image is a plus point and so too the space inside. Safety may be a plus too, but then will that ll justify the price for a 800 cc car?

The Alto certainly looks bland in comparison to the Eon. But it all depends on Maruti's ability to offer a suitable price cut and make it attractive to the price-conscious target customer.

At the end of the day, it all depends on the PRICE of a car. The Eon may have all the bells, whistles, space and looks, but if the target customer perceives it to be "expensive" and/or not a VFM product, the Eon could well go the Getz/Fusion/old Jazz/Versa way. All good and capable cars that got messed up by the price tag.

But for now, the Eon scores more points than the Alto. If the Alto has its "Let's Go" philosophy, the Eon will have something like "Let's Go...On and On".

By the way, one car that could also become an attractive option is the much underrated Estilo. With nearly a Rs 50,000 discount, it suddenly becomes an attractive proposition for a second car. Tall body, spacious (for the segment), good boot space, the M benefits + Rs 50K discount.

Not impressed with the pricing. The top end Sportz especially is overpriced. The A-Star VXi costs Rs. 387829.50 in Delhi and with discounts it will turn out to be considerably cheaper than the Eon. If you ask me I would go for the A-Star any day.
Hyundai has missed a trick here.

Talking about pricing Eon, even though its a 800 cc engine, it is surely a tad bigger, better, powerful, newer than the Alto and nowadays cc does not really mean anything it is the BHP afterall which is 10 more than our good old Alto 800cc (if ones wants to compare equal cc).

Just noticed one thing the link used to showcase the new Eon by Hyundai is on the defunct Getz Prime. Read the link's address carefully -

Agree with Extreme torque, A-star is better option if you compare with the prices of Lxi & Vxi of A-Star(After Discounts). If they reduce the ex-showroom price (discounts) then it will also look VFM Bangalore Ex-Showroom Prices for A-Star
LXi 3.67, VXi 3.94
Having drive A-Star can tell it is good car with some short comings.
With this pricing of EON I think
1) Hyundai has given a Maruthi a chance to play around with the price of ALTO slightly to some extent
2) Distant possibility of A-Star sales may increase. For me Eon looks A-Star in some angles.

This will replace the Santro for sure. I think the pricing is well justified. They should have some premium over the alto , once for quality of components and second for positioning at premium price over alto to communicate the contextual clue to the market about the same.
This little car will be seen a lot by us now. The naming is also perfect, good that they did not name it i5.

They could not have named it anything from i1 to i9 and these trademarks are reserved by Audi (i think) worldwide.
Eon is a nice name in itself. It is gonna be a alto killer. Killer pricing and brilliant product

Completely different design philosophies side by side , the Hyundai wins on the looks and the design hands down.

The rear does not look too bad either , probably the angle of the photograph makes it appear more aesthetic , because on the snaps we had with a full view of the rear it look quite strange.
