The length will be 3.99m.

Now the advantage that the 3.99 has over the Dzire is the new Swift based interiors. I just hope the car looks neat with the chopped off boot. A 50K is a tempting option over the Dzire. I would have loved if they had named it Dzire CS instead of 3.99 !! Guess it's a code-name.

I can't even find a link to the article on their website now. But it was on the news. I posted it here as soon as I heard it.

I'm sure maruti will not price the new car 50k below current dzire, as it may make it on par with the new Swift.
Swift 3.99 is the internal code name used by maruti, not the actual name.

You are correct. There are rumours of Swift 3.99. Here is the same news on motorbeam website:

Quote:
The country’s largest maker, Maruti Suzuki will be launching the sedan version of its most popular hatchback model, the Swift. The new Swift sedan is rumoured to be called as Swift 3.99, since the car has been designed with its overall length below 4 metre to get excise duty benefits. Thus, the company looks forward to expand its portfolio to 3 body styles on the same platform to gain profits and also work around the Government’s excise duty structure. The new Swift 3.99 is expected to be priced Rs. 50,000 below the current Swift Dzire and it is definitely going to plug the gap with the new Swift hatch positioned below.

“The Dzire sales are still strong enough to not pull it out of the market. Adding a third body style in the Swift range will mean incremental volumes without much higher investments, especially when auto sales are slowing and companies are looking to delay capacity expansion,” an industry expert said.

This however, is not any new strategy. The same business concept is being followed by many global companies like Toyota, Volkswagen and Tata Motors. Tata Motors used the same business concept when it launched the Indica, Indigo, Indigo CS (sub 4 metre) and the Indigo XL (longer variant) all based on the same platform. Having a different offering in each egment gives the customers plenty of choice while buying the car of their choice while allowing the companies to keep the development costs low. Maruti Suzuki is setting up its second manufacturing facility in Manesar with a focus on increasing the production capacity of the company and the launch of the new Swift 3.99 is timed along with that. By January, daily production at the second new assembly line at Manesar is being increased to 900 units, from the current 200, taking the total capacity to around 2,100 units a day. Increasing the production capacity will help in meeting the demand for the additional models since the company is already facing lot of backlog for the Swift. Currently the Swift and the Dzire are among the most popular models with diesel variants accounting for more than 80% of the total sales. In November, the Dzire accounted for about 13 per cent (10,403 units) of Maruti Suzuki’s sales, while around a lakh customers are still waiting for delivery of the new Swift.

Read below on Vicky.in
Maruti Swift 3.99 or 2012 Swift dzire specifications | Vicky.in | India Automobile Blog
Quote:
Eversince the new swift hit the market, we all know a new dzire based on new swift is coming. We recently revealed you that Maruti may name it as swift 3.99 and might co-exist with existing dzire. Either its the 2012 dzire or Swift 3.99, following are the speciifications of the model. Swift 3.99 as the name suggests would be 3.9m in length, 1.6m wider and 1.5m taller. However the wheelbase of swift 3.99 would be same as the swift hatchback– 2.43m only. Also like the swift, base variant of swift 3.99 would run on 165/80 R14 tyres and top variants would use 185/65 R15 rubber. Weighing around 1000kg, swift 3.99 petrol will be powered K-series 1.2L engine developing 87PS of max power at 6000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm. The engine will come with 5-speed manual transmission and mileag of swift 3.99 petrol would be around 18.5kmpl under standard conditions.

Seems like a ditto of Swift compact car, wait for diesel specifications and a big surprise on the swift 3.99 or 2012 swift dzire in next post

It's amazing how Maruti is trying to milk one design idea by just pulling and pushing the boot to come up with three different models. Even if there are some slight changes to the specs, the root of these three cars remain the same.

What is more amazing is that all 3 are still selling like hot cakes with no show of slowdown whatsoever.

But this swift 3.99 might just eat away the market share of Dzire. What kind of a boot space will it come with?

Maruti Suzuki to launch new Swift DZire in February
Source: Economic Times

Four years after it launched the entry-level sedan Swift DZire, the country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India is bringing a shortened version of the car that will hit the market next month.

Although the model will qualify for the excise duty of 10 per cent enjoyed by small cars, the company said it is unlikely that the new version of DZire will be priced lesser than the existing one, which ranges between Rs 4.94 lakh and Rs 7.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

"We have invested a lot on the new DZire. It is on a brand new platform. There are at least 150 new features compared to the existing DZire and it is unlikely that the new one will be priced lesser," Maruti Suzuki India Managing Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Mayank Pareek said.

He, however, added that the company has not yet finalised the pricing of the new DZire, which will be available in both petrol and diesel options.

While the petrol version will be powered by a 1.2 litre engine, the diesel one will have a 1.3 litre engine. An automatic transmission variant will also be available in the petrol version.

The company and its vendors have invested over Rs 230 crore for the model change, Pareek added.

Asked if the existing DZire would be discontinued once the new version is launched, he said, "There is demand for the existing one and we will continue it for some specific variants for the commercial segment."

According to MSI Chief General Manager (Marketing) Shashank Srivastava, the company will discontinue the mid and top variants of the existing DZire and offer the base model in stripped down version to target fleet segment. Srivastava said the new DZire will be launched in the first week of next month.

Since its launch in 2008, the DZire has sold over 3.2 lakh units so far. The existing model did not enjoy the excise benefit of 10 per cent on small cars as it is longer than four metres.

The new DZire will be manufactured at the company's Manesar plant. MSI is looking to recover lost ground this year after it was hit by a series of labour unrest at the plant last year.
Pareek said at present the DZire has a waiting period of 3-4 months and MSI is looking to address the issue by gradually ramping up the output.

As per current government policy, cars below the length of four metres and engine capacity of 1,200 cc in petrol and 1,500 cc in diesel qualify as small cars.

Those bigger than the specifications come under the big car category and attract excise duty of 22 per cent with an additional Rs 15,000 for those cars with engine capacity above 1,500 cc.

Thanks for the link.
IMHO Maruti should have passed on the excise benefits onto the customers. It would have swept the market.

the interiors seem to be partly "derived" from the Ertiga(except for the acc the rest looks pretty much the same as in the Ertiga)

This will be a success, primarily on account of the freshness.

Looks like this year Maruti has plans to regain there market share. Surely they will get bigger market share with new Dzire, Ertiga. Looks good to me. Interiors are also looking good. Two tone looking better & upmarket. Pricing is the key.

They should pass the excise duty benefit to the customers. At least some share of it. It makes more sense. Lets hope for the best
