Is it only me? Reminds me a bit of Matiz.

The design is boring alright, but not ugly either. Looks OK to me.

BTW, what might be the price range? 3.5L+ for base variant, ex-showroom?

I agree. Looks a bit like Matiz. Cute. I wouldn't mind buying one if I am in that market.

Is it positive that Skoda will be launching this very model? Asking because what I see is a 2-door hatchback. If they actually do so then it will be something new in the Indian market (if we ignore the imports). And it looks like it'll target the family segment of customers, so how do you think the customers will take it? Don't you think its highly unlikely Skoda will take such a big chance?

Infact, this one is looking much better than the seriously dull one which they named as 'Fabia'. It'll be quite welcoming for our kind of markets across the world where small cars are always preferred. Among the small cars, there cannot be anything more dull and boring than M800.
The engine choices are good, efficient and no need to look at any of the torque or such numbers as these cars are not intended for.

Even if we leave aside all other details like dull looks or engine size/power, what really sticks out is the 2 door concept which will be new to Indian market. I mean every time there is a 3rd passenger, the front passenger will need to disembark from the car to let the 3rd passenger in/out. Won't that be an inconvenience? And also if the car is driver driven, wont it be inconvenient to embark/disembark?

VW will get a 5 door UP for India.
Skoda's Citigo will based on it.

A 2 door car would not be accepted really well in India because we usually consider our requirements to travel with family when ever we buy a car.

By the way we need to see how the Indian customer reacts to 2 same products only having a different outer skin and a rebadged brand.

But they look quite different right? And have most of the visible panels or interiors changed.
Actually both cars just share the platform the feel and look is quite different.

Skoda and VW were planning to have rebadged cars.

Eg: Suzuki A-star being sold as Nissan Pixo in other countries or Suzuki Ritz as Opel Agila.

It doesn't matter if the underpinnings are common, can help reduce the overall cost.

I am not saying that it is wrong (unless there is a price difference).

VW and suzuki were in talks to introduce the WagonR rebadged as a VW hatch too but things did not fall into place.

"A little recap on the Citigo – The Citigo is based on the VW Up! platform. Essentially, Skoda has slightly changed the front fascia of the Up! by changing the headlamp design and adding the signature Skoda grill to the Up! The side and rear profile of the Citigo is pretty much same as the Up!
It will be offered in the same engine and gearbox option as the Up! but will be priced below it owing to Skoda’s expertise in cost cutting technologies. Skoda want to introduce the Citigo in Czech republic by this year itself. It will be made available all across Europe by the next year."

Skoda India is mum about introducing the Citigo in India. Right now Skoda India is completely focused on the Rapid sedan and is not commenting on any future plans. However, if history is anything to go by, Skoda India will introduce the Citigo in India and will price it just below the VW Up!"

The Up seems to have some thing about it (call it the X factor) that makes it look OK and bearable; while the Seat and Skoda twins look absolutely last generation especially the window line.

IMHO, the Skoda will struggle in the looks department against its competitors in India (I10, BeatRitz and even the Figo).

Actually, I like this design. Plain, sweet and simple. Too many lines (New Verna), and the design gets distracted IMO. Well taste is subjective. Anybody else with me?

Default Skoda lines up hatchback Citigo for India

Mumbai: Czech automaker Skoda is lining up a new compact car Citigo for India, the small car originally planned for Europe. The company has not been able to crack the bigvolume compact car segment in India with the Fabia, and it now plans to launch new products in the lower-end of the market to corner higher numbers and market share.
“The Citigo, which is mainly asmall car for Europe, also has a potential in a market like India,” Skoda Auto Global chairman Winfried Vahland told TOI here. Vahland, who was in India to oversee the production of the company’s soon-to-be-launched entry sedan Rapid (based on parent Volkswagen's Vento), said India is one of the key markets for the company globally, along with China and Russia.
“We are very optimistic on the Indian market and expect growth rates between 10% and 20% in the coming years.”
The Citigo is one of the newest and the smallest cars in Skoda’s stable and will be launched in the Czech market in late 2011 and in Europe in summer 2012. In line with the company’s positioning of a value-for-money brand within the VW stable, the Citigo will be a cheaper alternative to VW’s new compact Up!.
Vahland said when the Citigo enters India, it will be with VW’s support. Sources said the company will have common strategies and synergies with the VW Up! that is also expected to enter the market next year. However, the model will have distinct Skoda characteristics on the exterior and the interior.
