Superbly composed list there.
My choice is for COTY is the XUV5OO. It's taken Mahindra to a different level. Loaded with eqyuipment, it's staggering Value For Money and has dented sales of all cars from 10 lacs to 25 lacs.
I love the Audi A6 - superb quality, but it's not exactly affordable for everyone. That would be my luxury COTY.

No brainer! Has to be the XUV 500. Truly symbolizes mahindra's new corporate identity -RISE!

As echo'ed by the other members. COTY 2011 has to be XUV500.
With it's launch all other SUV's are looking either under-equipped or overpriced!!

My vote goes for the all-new Hyundai Verna. The decision was made for the following reasons:

1. It did what it was intended to, to dethrone the Honda City from the top of the C segment.
2. It launched Hyundai's stunning new design philosophy that is going to span everything from the 3 Lac Eon to the 20 Lac Sonata
3. It decimated the competition by coming with features and options that its competitors could only dream of
4. Above all, it excels in what 90% of the car-buying public in India wants (stunning looks, long list of features, great brand value, second-best sales and service network, supremely comfortable to drive in city and excellent mile cruncher in highways)

The Mahindra XUV500 came a close second losing out only due to pathetic fit and finish in some areas like glove box, center console storage compartment, dashboard plastics, etc. Also, the car I test drove had the ESP malfunction light turning on and off intermittently though the service advisor said that the feature was working normally. Though I understand that it is quite normal for a first-time manufacturer to get these niggles, it is going to take a year or two for Mahindra to sort out all these electronics-related issues. Until then, it is the Verna for me.

Based on the above quote by GTO :-) , it is the Hyundai Verna for me. Second choice would be the Eon.

The XUV is a major advance for an Indian manufacturer, but still far more competent and mature products have bombed for looking a lot less uglier. Like it has been mentioned, it is a love it or hate it look. I am not a fan of the XUV500's looks.

The Verna apart from looking drop dead gorgeous, represents a tremendous commitment from a manufacturer whose upper segment products have repeatedly met with indifferent response from the Indian market. To still stick on, persevere and then come out with something as gorgeous as the Verna (and loaded and competent too....its not just about the looks) represents solid focus of the company.

The Verna has certainly upped the game in the segment and set a new benchmark for standard and safety features.

I am looking forward to the launch of the Elantra (Fluidic). That should teach people a thing or two about styling,

for me, it is XUV 500, because:
  • this is one launch of the year which offered more features and goodies than what everybody expected.
  • it offered all that at a lower price point than what everybody expected.
  • it took Mahindra to the next level altogether.
  • it MAY force other companies to cut down on their prices and also offer more to remain in competition.

my vote goes to the new verna! new king of the segment! dethroned the city and has destroyed any competition from the fiesta and the vento.

The XUV is the runner up,it too is a great car but since its launched just a few months back(only in the metros!!) and has slight niggles reported here and there so the reliability is in question since mahindra is not known for its reliability in electronics But the Xuv may prove otherwise in the near future?

The fiesta would have got my vote, had a lot of buzz about it before it was launched, even more than the verna but its pathetic price, average engines and poor interior fit and finish makes it the 'Flop of the year'!

My choice is Honda Brio for exceptional quality product without any compromise. This is a matured and well tested product unlike mahindra's test with first lot of cars and correct them with a V2

Would love to vote for XUV500. Almost all reviews are on positive side unlike Aria. Thats a great achievement, equivalent of what Tata managed with Indica in 1998 ( with Yukta Mukhei as a show person IIRC ).

What goes against it is its availability. A visit to Mahindra dealer this sunday and we ( me and dad ) were not even offered a chair to sit. We had a conversation just standing. Not even Demo piece. Really bad and rather insulting behavior, even in the way they were talking. This took the vote away from XUV500.

So my vote goes to Swift. The good things about Swift :
1) Great ride and handling combo which was missing earlier.
2) Improvements in refinement and hopefully in fit and finish also.
3) Great diesel is now faster than earlier diesel Swift. IIRC, the current Swift diesel is almost as quick as the original 65bhp esteem.
4) Safer than outgoing car.

These things along with A.S & S., FE and peace of mind factor decides the winner. Moreover, Maruti is seriously working towards reducing the waiting list. Mahindra, Toyota, Hyundai ( for Verna and i20d ), learn how to act quick.

For me Swift would always be the leader for its sheer driving pleasure and the super strong Maruti network.

However I find Kizashi and Volvo to be very elegant.

Call it far fetched, but it's the truth. It only has the same engines, and looks similar, but that's because the previous gen's engines & design clearly contributed to its success.

Under the skin, the Swift is all-new and is also based on an entirely new platform. It's NOT a facelift.

A very one-sided poll, this. I almost feel sorry for the rest of the cars.
My vote for the xuv because:
- of the sheer value it gives for your money
- coming from an Indian manufacturer, this is really a giant stride in the right direction
Tata could learn a lesson or two from its rival!
