Default Is this the right time to buy used luxury petrol cars?

After the trudge in petrol prices, the used car market for Petrol luxury cars have fallen flat. The car’s you would have never dreamt of owning is offered at a mere price.

Before the subsidy on diesel is take of by the Indian Govt. or the price for diesel cars increase, I think its good to own one of your dream cars

Honda Accord – 3.0 – 4.5 Lakhs
Honda Civic – 5.0 – 7.0 Lakhs
Honda CRV – 4.0 – 6.0 Lakhs

Skoda Superb – 4.0 – 10.0 Lakhs
Skoda Laura – 5.5 – 7.0 Lakhs

Hyundai Sonata (new shape) – 5.5 – 7.5
Hyundai Elantra – 3.0 – 4.0

Toyota Corolla – 3.0 – 7.0
Toyota Camry – 3.5 – 9.0

A Superb for 4 lacs? Can you give me a contact please? Time for an upgrade!

Is there any basis for your statement that the market for petrol luxury cars has fallen flat? Any data for example?

If you do have used car details for Accord at 3-4.5 lakhs in Banglore, wonder what it'll fetch in Pune!
Are you sure you ain't giving us scrap metal values

And here I was convincing my parents to go for a used Swift with a budget of 4 lakhs!

Both the Hyundai are great cars but had a hard time surviving the Indian condition.

Prices may have sky-dived but buying a luxury car is one thing and maintaining is another.

The spares sure haven't become cheap due to petrol prices!

These look good options for short-term ownership though.

Do some search on Carwale used car search, you'll be amazed.
But at the same time, Luxury cars were always commanding low resale values. Anyway one place where you won't be let down is at the workshop where they'll treat old cars at par with new ones at the time of billing.

noopster, since you've asked, let me share the contact details of the pre-owned Skoda Superb :

For Sale: 2005 Skoda Superb - Team-BHP Classifieds

The owner is quoting 4.25 and if your negotiation skills are good you may even get it for 3.75! Seriously, I want to see you trade-off your love(read as VW Vento AT) for this Skoda Superb.

Right said, this is the time to own used Luxury petrol cars.

This upgrade / purchase will be more fruitful if it is for status symbol / this is going to be the 2nd/3rd car with a economy car already in stable. Am I right here?

I came across many deals for used corolla / civic / accord for less than 5lakhs in chennai. Petrol Merc (post 2000 models) are easily available for less than 10 lakhs.

I absolutely agree with you. When you have a country obsessed with diesel fuel, combined with the current recession, and a mileage conscious population, this is absolutely the right time and place to buy your dream ride.

A honda accord, previous model for 5.5 lakhs and i am sure its negotiable:
http://classifieds.team-bhp.com/buy-...a/Accord.html/

Toyota corolla previous model for under 5.5 lakhs (less than 5 yrs old!!):
Used 2007 Toyota Corolla HE 1.8J (D291458) for sale in Gurgaon - CarWale

Chevrolet optras for around 3 lakhs:
Used 2004 Chevrolet Optra LS AT 1.8 (D312078) for sale in New Delhi - CarWale

So if you already have a daily drive and would like a luxury weekend car then this is the prefect time to buy one bargain. Just make sure the service centre of the car you buy is close by as a used car will have a few niggles here and there for sure

Yes, its a super time to own a luxury petrol car.

I think the rise in the petrol prices have done a irrevocable damage to the junta mindset (unless the prices themselves are slashed). That's why this sudden tank in the prices of petrol car prices. Also, the higher you go, the harder you fall. So, clearly the best value cars are available in the higher segment cars.

Taking new car example, Skoda Laura diesel is almost 2.5 lakhs costlier than its petrol sibling (after the discounts are factored in). There is no way you'll recover that cost (unless you're a taxi driver). And I am talking about the stonker of 1.8TSI engine here. Yet, the Laura petrol hardly sells.

Bangalore used car prices are disproportionately high, so I will not talk about them. But in Delhi, a decent condition City ZX Gxi/VTEC 07/08 can be yours at ridiculously low 3.5 lacs. A decent Civic 07/08 at 5.5.

Great time for a lateral upgrade.

Yes agree this is the right time to buy a petrol car if someone is looking for one, when the running the very minimal the petrol does make sense.

The heavy discounts in new have had a cascading effect on the used cars as well. Accord new is going at 3L+ discount, and i am sure Superb is going in a same way. This was bound to have an effect on the used accord and other luxury used cars.

There are many other reasons for low sales of Laura Petrol, when i was looking for one Skoda was test driven, liked but quickly rejected, as one can expect higher maintenance cost's in general, sometimes wrong diagnosis of problems by the A.S.S and hence spending extra, and finally the deal breaker lack of equipment and atrociously high prices to get one fixed (for example ICE with USB, or a Video player etc).

That's fine. I am not advocating the Laura petrol to be the best car in the segment or anything..In fact, car purchase is a very subjective choice. The point that I am trying to make is that 'over skew' in favour of diesel cars has resulted in atrociously low resale prices. An the best part is, I expect the trend to continue (and thus we will keep on getting better deals)

The one's that are low in pricing are the 02-05 make models. Not too enticing a choice, taking into consideration the cost of maintainence for these cars. Especially Skoda's.

Yes, luxury petrol car prices have fallen, but not that low. The newer ones retail around 12-15 lac margin.

Used luxury petrol cars are a deal now as there are few takers. Fact is that luxury petrol cars are more likely to have been better cared for than their diesel counterparts.

Am looking for a good car too. Dont feel like parting with my hardy Sx4 either.
