If they take the CBU route then it would not do much in terms of sales. It could be just to create the brand awareness ( for the masses!) before a full fledged launch with localization and production from the indian plant!

Cheers!

Thanks for the info. I had no idea they were export surpluses. explains their short stint at the showrooms.
And do they really fetch high prices in the used car market, that's really cool.
I got my fingers crossed buddy!

Maybe a bit OT, but wont Tata stake claim to the 207 moniker , since they brought this in first (and is still in use and has a good brand recall) ?

wow, fantastic pics, got to say really love the stance of the 508, those cars are looking big and royal!

9 months isnt too far, we should be seeing them breaking their early marketing engines soon, and with PR kicking in, more news about these beauties will be out

I wonder how they will be pricing these beauties in the market though!!!

Good point. My guess is that Peugeot will go with some fancier names than 207 and 508 anyway. Probably would be easier to market and encourage better recall.

I donít think so. These is the way they name their cars. It was 206 before 207, and 208 will succeed 207. The first number (2 here) normally denotes the size/segment. And the last number (7 in 207) change along with generations of the same model.

Thats a very valid point there. What will Peug do if Tata claims the 207 name.
Even the Ritz had to do without its original splash monicker.
Thanks VB for the insight.
On android so cant click the thanks button. But you know i meant to.

Somewhere I read that the 207 has been face-lifted / upgraded to 208? Wont this problem be solved if they bring the 208 name to it, even if its not the updated version ?

Good point. But AFAIK, the 208 is scheduled for a late 2012 launch. So I am not sure if they will do a name change for an existing model. But I think this is something they could easily workout. Maybe add a + and name it as 207+ or something (IIRC, they used to have a model called 206+ )

Might solve the issue in the short term. But VB has just enlightened on the way they assign model names. So the next gen 207 will be the 208. and then the problem may arise again.

Nissan is launching the Sunny. Which was a moniker used by Bajaj in the past. Wonder how they worked it out. If they had to.

Edit : misunderstood the post. You meant peugeot bringing it in as the 208. Yes but then that will not be in line with their global tagging.
Or maybe since they belong to totally different segments it won't matter as much.
This name thing is confusing me no end.

I guess Indian market is one which not aligned with rest of the markets in terms of specs or even name except for few manufactures. Like ours should be the only market where a Fiesta Classic & Fiesta resides, Accent & Verna are two different segment cars & so on ! So my feeling is even if they call the 207 as 208, there will be very few who will know the difference. On top of it, they could always stick to this name when the upgrade happens. Like Swift retaining the name Swift itself & City / Civic retains the same name for multiple generations.

Very valid point there.
Well as long as they bring in that fab looking 3 door. They can call it whatever they like.
The one thing i like about the French makers is their quirky design elements in the few right places.
It makes their cars stand out a little.
Whether its the interiors or exteriors.

The reason Nissan could get away with "Sunny" was because the name and the vehicle is both long dead.
Not so in the case of the 207.

Just spotted the 508 during my daily Hinjewadi Grand Prix. Could not take a pic as I was driving and it was in my rearview mirror all the time. (I'm not showing off, he was driving really slowly.)
I saw it on Paud Road, but lost it once I turned on the highway.

I had earlier posted an interior shot of the 508 (in page 4 of this thread).

Here's a shot of the interiors of the 207 -
