That's what I suspected. So even then, the calculation should lead to a figure of almost 216mm and not 272mm as quoted by aravind.anand.

You need to add the tire width on the wheel radius. 17inch is only the wheel rim radius.

Take the 205/55 tire, it has sidewall height of 205*55/100 = 112.75mm.

Adding up it is 216+112 is almost 330mm?

Oops, my apologies to everybody for the wrong calculation and the wrong figure that I had earlier posted . Here's the correct calculation:
Dia of the wheel = 17 inches = 431.8 mm
Tyre profile is 205/55, which mean (205*55)/100 = 112.75 mm
Effective tyre profile at the bottom (considering that car's weight will compress it to only 96% of original height) = 96% of 140.25 = 108.24mm
Hence the height of the side body is at a staggering - 324.14mm (half of wheel dia (431.8/2)+108.24)
Which seems too high to be convenient!

@Mustang, do you know the approximate launch date of this? I am seriously considering Ecosport if priced right and launched enough (2-3 months)

They supposedly have not finalized interiors. How then is this going to be launched in Feb? I hope they do - I think this is my car now - waited too long for the Mini and got fooled when it arrived. My budget is lot higher, but I dont like big cars - Anything above 4400 makes me uncomfortable.

Hey Guys look what I found!! I incidentally found the interiors of the Ecosport. Upon playing the Ecosport game in Ford's interactive stand at the Auto expo, I realised that the steering wheel that was on the screen belonged to the Global Fiesta. Upon googling, I came across this picture which is from a foreign website - motoresx.com.
Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33-24880.jpg
Here's the link to the article - http://www.motoresx.com/2012/01/pres...obal-2012.html

Looks awesome IMHO. The steering is from the Global Fiesta, AC vents seem to be unique, though a tad inspired by the Focus (good thing at that). The housing for the MMI screen is really nice. So is the instrument console. The place where the dashboard meets the door is made really well, this area in particular looks butch

I think a launch within 2-3 months seems unlikely but i am not sure. However, the pricing will be cut throat.

Ford is using a cast iron block for the 1L ecoboost engine. I think this is not just for "fast warm-up" but also to reduce the cost of materials. Also iron is stronger than alloy of the same thickness (I think, right?). Also I read in a thread (Italian Safari thread) that a dual mass flywheel (unbalanced flywheel) is a cheaper way of reducing vibrations than using counterbalance shafts. So maybe this engine isn't that high tech

Quote:
The engine block is cast iron instead of aluminium for up to 50% faster warm-up.[8][9] Due to natural vibrations of the 3-cylinder design, the flywheel is unbalanced (unlike the traditional method with counterbalance shafts).
Above quoted from this link.

I sincerely hope the pricing is cut-throat. Primarily because I'm being selfish about my wallet, but also if Ford doesn't want another Fusion (sales wise).

Hey funkyp,

I am really sorry about the typo. The sales guy mentioned february 2013 & not '12. That's the reason I mentioned that it was going to be really long wait! Hope it helps.

Two things i heard people at the company talking about. I am not naming them. My interpretation is given below in the line.

1. So the car has to be targeted at first time buyers.... -Mr. X

Which means that it Should be NOT more than 8 lacs starting as first time buyers do not buy cars that are more than this amount.

2. So red is on.... -Mr. Y

Which can mean two things, interior color or exterior color. But everybody knows that red will obviously be an exterior color (either paprika or colorado or both) so i think that we should get ready for an interior color option of red, similar to the option on the figo. I think it will be a different and hopefully darker shade so lets see.

Tried to estimate the length of EcoSport by comparing with the new Fiesta. Here is a diagram taken from one of the first few posts and rearranged a bit.

So it seems that EcoSport is slightly smaller than the Fiesta. Which is not bad!

This was already explained by the Ford ED Marketing in the interview with Rehaan, updated in the first post itself. It will be a sub 4m vehicle whereas the fiesta is 4.3m

That wheel stuck on the back makes up for it though

Was watching Sid Patankar on NDTV yesterday. He's doing some kinda top 10 countdown. Ecosport was the top 1! on that countdown for whatever reasons..

He also did mention that the production version was at least a year away. So that kinda in sync with what I heard also. Moreover mustang.101 also wasn't sure if the car could be launched within 2-3 months.

Looks like this going to get similar pre-launch hype that the new fiesta got. Hope it comes with "Cut throat" pricing as mustang.101 put it. Keeping my fingers crossesd.

With this I should be BHPian now! Wow!

Good point, but no harm in checking. Resting hat on marketing folks' banter may not be all that profitable all the time.
