Ertiga is sure to cannibalise a bit on innova/xylo sales, especially urban families who need a MUV but not so big and cumbersome. The execution has been good, with great packaging but dare say that final design compared to R3 concept is low profile just like A star turned out.

Even I was wondering about the same. Third row split seats or even removable third row. Now that would make it a really yummy proposition. Imagine the ease of being able to slide the second row full back and have a huge boot to eat up all you can carry. Is an after market modification possible to the effect of making the third row removable?

This will be more then a upholstery job as it requires hinges, collapsible frame, clamps etc.

That's why I mentioned Koyas. We had our Ambassador done up by them way back in 90s. They handled the entire upholstery including replacing the front bench with captain or "bucket" seats as we used to call them. I'm sure with that experience they should be able to do the split seat feature.

Saw an Ertiga in flesh today at Kalyani Motors, Bannerghatta road. The third row is more suitable for kids and the feature to move second row seats looked good. It could have been better if there was a provision for split third row seats. My sister is considering this for her city/occasional long drives but we couldn't manage a test drive today as there were many people waiting for the same.

The sales staff were not aware that ABS is standard on diesel variants They checked with someone else and confirmed later though.

Checked out the Ertiga at Pratham today. I dont think it will impact Innova sales much. Xylo may be a few. The biggest looser will be maruti's own Sx4 and dzire. Of course, it can take away some sales from Jazz, i20, Polo, etc.

The middle row is strictly "hatch class" meaning 3 people will be tight in it at the shoulder level. I am 5'88"(medium build ) and felt decent leg space in the 3 rows though.

One thing i found was the thigh support to be less. I drive a Baleno currently. Anybody else noticed it with respect to other cars?

+100.

When I found out that, folding the third row eats up the second low legroom, I asked the Sales Executive whether the third row seats can be removed, like in the Scorpio? He said we cant since it is fixed.

It would be nice to simple take the Ertiga to the M.A.S.S. and get the third row completely removed and use this as a spacious 5 seater with a big boot for city, kind of an upgrade from a sedan.

I had the same experience. The sales executive confidently told me that the LDi & VDi does not come with ABS.

+10.

I think the Ertiga will affect the sales of premium hatchbacks like Polo, Punto & i20 rather than Xylo and Innova. The Ertiga, though expensive, is much more spacious & practical than such hatchbacks.

Those who want a proper 7 seater like Xylo & Innova will not opt for the Ertiga.

Yes I too think it will drive some customers away from dzire and SX4. But Maruti did well to bring in the new Dzire and price it bang in the Hatchback territory. That has given them enough space to play around with the pricing. There is a gap of 1.2 lakhs between entry level dzire and Ertiga. Still there will be cannibalisation I think. But it will be very tough for SX4.

What maruti needs next is a proper modern sedan. A mini Kizashi perhaps with exciting engine options but competitively priced to take on the likes of Vento Verna etc. Their total dependence on Fiat for the diesel engine though may put them back on that front. They need to get a bigger diesel heart a new bigger petrol engine and phase out the current SX4 with a new Sedan.

Wishful thinking. If only it was that simple.

Hi, any update on when we can expect the official review? sorry to sound anxious but I'm sure there are many of us hitting refresh on the "new topics" link, in eager anticipation.

cheers

Had a TD yesterday of the Ertiga Diesel. Felt unllike an MPV in terms of pick up when compared with Innova or Xylo..Searched on the net and here's some interesting info.
- Ertiga Diesel Power to weight ratio is 70 bhp/ton which is better than Xylo 64bhp/ton & Innova Diesel: 60 bhp/ton.

Booked the ZDI @ Pratham Bangalore. (As per sales-this version seems to have the highest bookings across variants). God knows how long would be the waiting period.

Except the salesfolks pushing you to sign for maruti insurance, everything else (including the test drive) was fine.

Any idea when (and if) the Renault Duster is being launched?

One of my friend is trading his hatchback for the Ertiga. He is buying it more for the ground clearance (in addition to the space and diesel). People travelling to rural areas might consider this aspect over small sedans.

The sales guy told us that it is charged with Super Turbo. How did you feel this?

I don't think RTO allows completely removing the third row whenever needed and putting it back. I remember very well once I was going in my Omni E (8 seater) with one row removed, the RTO (not cops) challaned me for that and they checked the RC book and showed me that this vehicle is 8 seater as per RC book. This was around 3-4 years ago, not sure if its changed. IMO they were right as per law. Changing the seating capacity comes under modification of vehicle that should be authorised by RTO, can someone throw more light on the same.
