Default Honda @ Auto Expo 2012

Honda easily had the most boring stall amongst all car manufacturers. No new Civic, no new CR-V and certainly no 1.6L turbo-diesel on display either. I cannot understand why Honda didn't atleast bring in some concepts to provide eye candy:

The Brio took center stage. Clearly, the most important car for Honda India. Well priced, fun-to-drive (a 90 BHP gokart!) and great interior quality. Hopefully, the production is able to stabilise soon:

The facelift City:

Superb "Dream Factory" was the only interesting part of Honda's Auto Expo showcase:

Any kid could walk in and start sketching his favourite car. As if to inspire the kids, whatever the Japanese designer drew on his tablet (on the desk, at the back) was displayed prominently on the LCDs:

The sketches were so good that I actually asked if Honda gave out some kinda outline? Nope, these are all original! The kids got a goodie bag at the end....

....and a chance to converse with the Brio. This talking Brio was pre-programmed to give standard answers to standard questions ("How are you?" types):

Honda on its part can do a few things while people wait for their Brios,

1. Improve the suspension over bumpy roads and speed breakers, its so bouncy,

2. On the S-MT models add the internally adjustable mirrors, its so hard to adjust mirrors rolling down the windows and then adjust and even worst is when you need to adjust the passenger side mirrors.

I guess they could have displayed the new Civic? And also the 2.2d motor which they have had in EU for sometime now?

I am shocked that Honda seemed to display a "I don't care" attitude at the Expo. The only thing that was repeatedly done was banging the boot of the Brio to show its strength. It was outright boring. Honestly I was not able to figure out why they had even taken part in the Expo. Whats the point in burning some good money when you display car's that any one can go into the showroom and buy?

Rightly said GTO , looks like one of the most boring stall in the Auto Expo.

Sad and surprised to see no new concept vehicle on display under the HONDA banner.

When a company's stall shrinks in size, offering and imagination, it tells that it is in trouble.
However it was great to see the kids in action.

Thumbs down Honda Motor Corp. The Auto Expo was perhaps an opportunity missed at telling the Indian public that Honda would be back stronger after the setbacks suffered as a result of the floods in Thailand.

Honda what is wrong with you ? Stop sitting on past glory and move that rear. Get in the new civic , launch the accord 2lt diesel , get the 1.6 diesel into smaller cars , promote the the new crv.Its hard to believe but Honda , your bullet proof reliability notion cannot be used any more to sell cars in India.

No, they are too snobby to compete with Suzuki, they would rather lose graciously than try winning. Typical Honda India attitude.

Disappointing, yes. But we must take into account some facts :-

- They are in the process of destroying a lot of their flood-affected cars in Thailand. Which is why their sales in November-December has taken a huge hit. Maybe they didn't have enough novelty in their line-up for this year's Expo. The only new duo - the expected volume seller Brio and the facelifted City - made their appearance.

- The next-gen Civic (unveiled last year) has received a lot of flak for it's rather quirky design. So they have pulled the Civic up and have put it on line for a mid-life facelift, due to arrive sometime in the third quarter of 2012. Maybe that's the reason why they didn't bring in the Civic.

- The all-new CR-V was recently launched, and that could have been brought in (since we will eventually see the new CR-V in India soon). Why Honda chose to keep it out, is a mystery. Maybe they are still receiving feedback on the CR-V, and aren't liking what they are receiving.

- The Accord is due to be replaced by a newer model as well. But that has strangely been kept out too.

- They could have brought it some of their new smaller in-development 1.4/1.5/1.6 L diesel engines (proposed to power the next-gen City, Brio and Jazz) as a set of demo displays. That could have sparked some crowd interest, but that wasn't to be. Another mystery.

All in all, some inexplicable moves by Honda, as if they were letting this Expo pass quietly. I hope they will be back in the next one with a bang, and their smaller diesels will take centre stage.

Let's hope it happens so.

Amidst the new launches and the pomp and pageantry of the glamorous competitors every one just forgot Honda. Is the charisma of the poor man's Mercedes on the wane?
GTO your coverage notifies this vital aspect. Honda has to shift to overdrive to cover lost ground and to catch up with the competition. The absence of a diesel motor is telling it like it is.

My colleague who visited the Autoshow felt this - Indian manufacturers showed more interest and enthusiasm than MNC pavilions. Very true after this thread.

After launching a successful hatchback, could not understand why Honda has not displayed their future models. Seems their priority is not there in this part of the world.
