The 7xx sales figures for March 2012 - the best month for the industry does indicate that the refresh has not worked for the A-Star and Maruti does need to relook the need for continuing with this car in it's present form and at the current price point.

When a Maruti does not touch the four figure mark in the pre-budget month, i am afraid its time to pull the plug. the A star is neither macho nor practical. The A star is actually officially the new generation Alto and yet Maruti chose to price it absurdly. The lack of space, the claustrophobic cabin and negligible boot does not make sense to the indian market at-least.

Not a surprising scenario when a manufacturer sells the old and new versions of the car alongside. The low-sales are nothing about the car's capability. To give a currrent example : The new Fiesta sold just 373units vs the old Fiesta's 1564units, again in the same pre-budget month or best-month-for-industry. Does not make the new one bad, does it ?

While it is indeed true that A* is an Alto replacement, the two are as similar as chalk and cheese. And you dont even need to drive it to know the difference. Just sit in one of each specimen and the difference would be glaring. Not even going into the fact that the A* comes with a new-gen K-series engine or that it is way better to drive. So, there is no way it can be sold for near-Alto prices. Ofcourse the competition has offerings at the A* price-point which tick more boxes for the consumer, which shows the lack of interest.

And in its AT version, it is the most frugal AT hatch you have today, with good drivability too.

All,

I have an A-Star AT and am looking to see if anyone has any mods like header on it. As this is a second car and does not run much, I would like to understand the economics of modding this car. My other car Verna CRDI AT is what garners all the attention, but as it is under warranty am hesitant to touch it right now with either ECU tuning or any other modifications.

Cheers,
